While Jelly Belly’s Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans are not quite every flavor and there is a guide to really know what you are getting unlike the unexpectedness seen in the Harry Potter books/movies, they do pretty well for being produced by Muggles. Over the years there have been different versions of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans with the main difference between them being slightly different flavor offerings. They all are the same in that they always have some decent flavors, but they also have some disgusting flavors. There also seems to have been an increase in the odd/downright disgusting ones over the years. Some of the odd ones are not really that bad if you like that kind of food, such as pepper. Some of the downright disgusting ones are vomit and rotten egg. The decent flavors are some of the better regular jelly belly flavors such as toasted marshmallow and buttered popcorn.
Most often you will find Bertie Bott’s in a little pouch that can be nicely reused later for holding other things. The jelly beans come in a small plastic bag inside and you can make the first use of the pouch be to hold the beans after you remove them from the plastic. They are also found in small boxes about the size of a deck of cards. Additionally there is a flavor box set, but it is only for the most adventurous as it only has 10 of the odd/disgusting flavors. It is called the Discovery Box and includes dirt, vomit, rotten egg, pickle, sausage, ear wax, earthworm, soap, black pepper, and booger.
Overall having the Jelly Belly Muggle version of the Harry Potter famous Bertie Bott’s candy is quite a fun experience. It is more than just enjoying a bag of candy. For one, it is not enjoyable at all times, such as when eating what I consider the worst flavor of a sardine jelly bean. However, it can be quite fun to do a tasting of them in a group and seeing the different faces each other make as they eat the disgusting flavors. It definitely can be a fun dare kind of event.
Typical prices for a bag of Bertie Bott’s is $4, for a card deck sized box is $2-$3, and for a discovery box is $6. Over the years each has come not only in different flavor combinations, but different colored packaging. It can be especially fun to try to go back and collect all the bag packaging for reuse by a Harry Potter fan for there wizard supplies.
