I’m a fanatic about my home. I not only want it to be fresh and clean, I want it to always smell that way as well. However, since I love to cook, and quite often garlic is involved, those pungent smells can be somewhat overpowering. I also have a dog; one that I bathe often. If you have not experienced the smell of wet dog, let’s just say it isn’t something you want to bottle and sell. For all of these reasons, I’m always searching for something new to keep my house smelling fresh.
I’ve tried a variety of different “types” and brands of air fresheners including aerosols, candles, decospheres, click sprays, crystals, plug-in diffusers, mobile air, and the newest automatic spray. While I love most of the products on the market, with major exceptions for the decosphere and crystals, the Air Wick Freshmatic Automatic Air Freshener is by far my very favorite.
I’ve been a fan of Air Wick products for many years. Their products are superior and come in a wide variety of options for type and scent. Because I love flowers, I really love the Air Wick’s floral scents. I think they are particularly amazing!
Although the Freshmatic resembles those wall air freshener systems you generally find in public restrooms, this version is specifically designed for the home or office. Like its professional predecessor, the Freshmatic can be set to deliver bursts of fragrance in the air every 9, 18, or 36 minutes. One can will spray about 2800 times. That means, depending upon the setting you choose, one can of air freshener will last between one and two months.
I particularly like that the dispenser can be put anywhere you want it. It can even be moved from room to room. It hangs on the wall and blends well into most décor easily with its fresh, clean modern design. The dispenser is battery operated so you do not have to worry about placing it near a wall outlet. In fact, it is recommended that you don’t place it near electricity or heat (see the list of precautions below).
The starter kit includes the automatic dispenser, an 8.45 fl. Oz. refill, two double AA batteries, and a screw for mounting the device. It ranges in price from about $13.95 to $17.75, depending upon where it is purchased. Refill scents average in cost from about $4.99 to $6.79.
Freshmatic is simple to use. Just insert the aerosol refill into the device as instructed and it will automatically release a fresh, light burst of fragrance at the time intervals you have chosen. Scent choices include citrus, mango papaya, lavender, apple cinnamon, and spring blossoms.
The newest version of Freshmatic comes with 20% more fragrance and an X-Press button, which allows you to spray a fresh burst of air freshener whenever you want. There are, however, some precautions that should be observed:
Follow all instructions in setting up the dispenser;
For best results, position the dispenser at about 6 feet or higher;
Do not insert anything into the dispenser other than the approved aerosol spray;
Don’t attempt to activate the mechanism when the dispenser is empty;
Do not spray the aerosol near anyone’s face or eyes;
Do not expose the aerosol spray to electricity or to temperatures above 120 degrees F;
Don’t use anything but alkaline batteries;
Disconnect the device if you are not going to be around the house or office;
Dispose of all batteries and aerosol cans in the approved manner;
Change batteries in the dispenser whenever the green light stops blinking; and
Keep the device totally out of the reach of children.
It is possible that a few people will experience an allergic reaction to some scents. Anyone experiencing eye, throat, or skin irritation, or having trouble breathing, should discontinue the use of the product until a physicians approves its use.
In the event that the eyes come in contact with the aerosol spray, immediately flush them with water for about 15 minutes. If the spray comes in contact with the skin, wash the area with soap and water. In the event that the product is swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Contact a physician or the Poison Control Center.
For a long lasting, fresh smelling home, Air Wick Freshmatic Automatic Air Freshener cannot be beat. I believe it is the best product of its type on the market today. Give it a try. I think you’ll be pleased.
