Attention parents of infants and young toddlers. If you own a The First Years™ Children’s Feeding Seat , it may have been recalled. Some models of this chair have a restraining strap that can become dislodged, which could allow your young child to fall out of the chair.
The First Years and the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission have recently announced that the Newborn-to-Toddler Reclining Feeding Seat has been voluntary recalled because of this safety issue.
About this product
The First Years makes lots of products geared for infants and toddlers. This product is named the Newborn-to-Toddler Reclining Feeding Seat. While this chair was made with three different styles, all of the chairs are the same except for the colors and decorations that were used on the chairs.
This seat reclines, so when you put your infant in the seat it’s easy to feed them. As they grow older, the seat can be set into an upright position so that toddlers can sit in it while they’re eating, too. All of the seats have a tray where you can put your childs food while they’re in the seat.
How to identify if your chair HAS been recalled
Only Newborn-to-Toddler Reclining Feeding Seats that were sold after November 8, 2006 are affected by this recall.
There are two ways to identify whether or not your seat is included in this recall. Both of these identifiers are found on the back of the Newborn-to-Toddler seat.
-Locate the area where the restraining straps pass from the front of the chair into the back of the chair and are anchored in the back of the chair. Measure the distance between the two straps. If this distance is approximately six inches or less, your seat is affected by this recall.
-Notice where the material that covers the front of the chair loops over the back to secure it from falling down. Look at the areas right below where the material is anchored to the back of the chair, on the far right and left sides. Look for a circle with the letter “R” inside it.If you do NOT find a circle with the letter “R” encased by it, your chair is affected by this recall.
Which Newborn-to-Toddler Reclining Feeding Seats have NOT been recalled
If you purchased your Newborn-to-Toddler Reclining Feeding Seats before November 8, 2006, your seat is safe to use and is not included in this recall.
There are also two ways to identify if your chair is not impacted by this recall. Both identifiers are found on the back of the chair.
-Locate the area where the restraining straps pass from the front of the chair into the back of the chair. Measure the distance between these straps. If the distance is approximately nine inches or more, your chair is safe to use and is not affected by this recall.
-Locate the far right and left sides of the chair. Look for the letter “R,” encased by a circle. If your chair DOES HAVE the letter “R” encased by a circle on the far right and left sides of the seat, then it is NOT impacted by this recall.
What do to if your Newborn-to-Toddler Reclining Feeding Seat HAS been recalled
If your chair has been recalled, stop using it immediately!
Contact the manufacturer, RC2, to get free replacement straps. After you’ve installed these replacement straps, the seat is safe for your infant or toddler to use.
