Please Donate Blood

This has been on my mind for a while and with me being a great advocate of this I figured I would place an article up on it hoping that it will get more people to do it. If you’re not a person who has the ability to give blood, but never have I urge you to please do so. It’s not every day that you can truly say what you did has just saved someone’s life. I understand that some people have a fear of needles and what not, but to conquer your fears for the good of others and to help others in need is the greatest feeling you can ever have. It’s easier to conquer them when you know what your doing will help save someone else’s life.

The Red Cross is always asking for blood and I think that if people donated all the time when they had the ability we could save many more lives. Everyone has a specific blood type and all blood is important, but there are far too many with rare blood types that are not giving when they are needed the most. I urge you all to find your local Red Cross and sign up to give blood on a regular basis. They will make sure that they wait the proper amount of time in between blood giving’s to make sure that you stay healthy and in proper working order so all you have to do is set up a time that is best for you. You will find that it’s not as bad as you thought and that after a while you wish you could do it more times a year than they allow you to give.

Everyday people get into accidents and they require blood and in some cases there is not enough blood or it arrives too late to save their life. Too often it takes a big even or call for people to actually want to give blood. I don’t want it to be like that, I would like to see people giving on a regular basis without a big event having to happen for them to do so. If we all band together and spread the word of its importance we can all work together to save a life one person at a time. With your help we can make sure that there is never a shortage of blood to be found and ease the worry of the families affected and of the doctors who have to sit there helpless at times because they have nothing to help the patient.

As a child I went through countless surgeries and I can’t thank those enough who donated so that I could be safe and sound as a kid. The best thing that I can do is give back in the same way and hope that I help and touch others lives as mine has been and hope that one day people will be more willing to give and to help those in need. I think in today society people feel like they can’t do anything to help and don’t realize all they can do to make this world a better place for everyone without little effort on their part. Its important to realize that the shortage of blood is a real thing every day and not just on the days they call you to give, because there is a shortage or some crisis happens.

As for the time factor, it varies from person to person, but in rare cases like mine it can take a half hour to forty five minutes to give. This may seem bad, but to me it’s all worth it in the end, because I know that I am helping someone in need. If I am lucky it takes less time, but with it taking so long I get to learn some things about those who take the time to make it all possible and all the volunteers who work hard to make the blood giving possible. Just seeing the look of happiness on their faces when people give forth effort to help and give is one of the greatest things to witness. They really do appreciate the time and effort all donors put in and they hope that those same donors can spread the word for others to give. So after reading this, if you have not giving blood before, please do and encourage all those you know to do the same. We need more people like you who are willing to give and help as much as they can. For just twenty minutes or a bit more in a day you can help to save a person’s life. If that’s not a reason enough to get up and do it, I don’t know what is.
