Pine Cone Picture Fame Ornaments

Pinecones are the perfect addition to any Christmas tree. I love natural elements in my home. Pinecones are durable, long lasting, and for most people free. This is an easy craft project perfect for Christmas that kids and adults alike will love to make. Simple changes in Christmas ribbon can easily incorporate this craft project into any home decor ranging from vintage to contemporary.

To Make Pine Cone Picture Fame Ornaments You Will Need:

Small Picture Frames (As Many As You Want)
Lots of Pine Cones
Hot Glue and Hot Glue Gun (You could use wood glue)
Ribbon
Photographs

The first step is to find some great little frames that do not cost an arm and a leg. You will be covering them with pinecone pieces; so don’t waste money on fancy frames. I like to use those little 3X2″ frames for this project, but you can use any size frame out think will hang from your Christmas tree. You could also make this craft project on larger 8X10″ frames and place them on the mantel.

Have the kids run out into the yard and neighborhood and collect a bunch of pinecones. You can also buy bags of pinecones at the arts and craft store in the fall and winter. Generally they are about $4 for a large bag.

Go ahead and plug in that hot glue gun and get it ready!

Now, pull of all of the seed of the pinecone. I like to group them by size as I pull them off, but that is optional.

Cut your ribbon to length. For this size frame I like to use a 6 inch piece of Christmas ribbon. Glue one end of the ribbon to the front right op corner of the frame. Glue the other end top the top right of the picture frame. These will be how you hang you pine cone picture frame ornaments when you are finished.

Now start on the outer edge of your little frame and run a bead of hot glue along one side. Place the tip of the pinecone seed on it so hat the large end is sticking out from the side of the frame. This will make your frame area larger.

Work your way around the frame doing this with the pinecone seeds.

Now, add a second row that overlaps this first layer of pinecone seeds. Run a bed of hot glue right in front of the tips of the pointy ends of the pinecones on the frame. Add a row of smaller pinecone seeds.

You can repeat this process for as much room as you have.

If you want to can embellish it further by adding a bow tied out if the same Christmas craft ribbon you used t make the hanging mechanism. Tie a small bow and glue it onto the top or bottom of your frame. You could also make two really small bows and glue one on the top left and one on the top right.

Insert family photos, old Christmas cards, and anything you want!

To make these Christmas ornaments fir a cotemporary design you can add a very simple metallic ribbon or even a ribbon that matches your wall colors.
