Ah, retirement. It’s something we all dream of, no matter how much we love our jobs. We are even willing to give up huge amounts of our paychecks so that we will be able to live comfortably during retirement. Unfortunately, some seniors aren’t living the glorious retirement that they had hoped for. Some seniors thought that there social security check would be enough to live off of, so they never invested in a 401(k) plan or put money into a savings account. These seniors often find themselves choosing between groceries and medical expenses. No one wants to end up with a retirement that involves a part-time job, but sometimes it’s unavoidable. For seniors who do need a little extra income each month, I have written this article to give them hope. Hope for a part-time job that doesn’t involve asking if a person wants fries with that or greeting people at their local department store. Also hope that their part-time job won’t interfere with their retirement too much. There are jobs out there that will not only give seniors time to enjoy their retirement, but will also be something that they will enjoy doing.

Part-time Jobs for Seniors #1: Selling Items on EBay

For seniors who love going antiquing and who also know a good deal when they’ve found one, I suggest selling items on EBay. This is a job that will not only allow you to go out and do something you enjoy (shopping), but it’s something that can mostly be done from home. For seniors who would prefer to work from home completely, there’s always the option of selling items through a drop-shipment company. This means that you will never have to deal with the merchandise or shipping. Seniors who do choose to ship the items from their home could always have UPS or the post office pick up their items from their home. This is a great part-time job for seniors because it’s really easy to do. There’s even the option of finding the items and then taking them to a company who will list those items on EBay for you.

Part-time Jobs for Seniors #2: Freelance Writing

Seniors have such wonderful stories to tell and they also know so much. Freelance writing is a wonderful part-time job for seniors because it can be done from home or from a favorite vacation spot. Freelance writing allows seniors to share their stories with the world and it also allows them to teach people something new. For seniors who enjoy crafting, why not share crafting tips with the world. There are so many topics to choose from when it comes to freelance writing. This is a great part-time job for those who have so much to teach, but so few people close by to listen.

Part-time Jobs for Seniors #3: Consulting

For seniors who ran their own businesses or were even the top salesperson for the company they worked for, consulting makes a wonderful part-time job. Teach others what you know. Share your experiences and failures and lead people in the right direction. This part-time job can easily be done from home through meetings and it can also be done through email.

Part-time Jobs for Seniors #4: Selling Crafts at a Flea Market

A wonderful part-time job is to sell your crafts at a flea market. For seniors who love to quilt or make furniture, this is a wonderful part-time job. People love going to flea markets and buying handmade items. You’d be surprised at the amount of money people are willing to pay for these items. I suggest sticking with crafts that can be done rather quickly, but then again if it’s something you enjoy you’re getting paid for something you would be doing during your retirement anyway, except you’re making money off of it.
