Oscar Mayer Mini Hot Dogs Product Review

Hot Dogs, Oscar Mayer

I enjoy eating hot dogs. Whether they’re cooked with baked beans, tucked in a soft bun and covered with chili sauce and onions, or grilled on a barbecue, I like hot dogs. That’s why, when I spotted a smaller version of my normal favorite, I just had to try them. Read this informative Oscar Mayer Mini Hot Dogs product review and find out all about them!

Price and Availability
I found Oscar Mayer Mini Hot Dogs at Kroger. A 10-ounce bag, which contains approximately 20, cost $3.59. You can visit the Oscar Mayer website (see resources) and find stores near your location that carry this product.

Product Description
Smaller than their full-size counterparts, but a tad larger than cocktail wieners, Oscar Mayer Mini Hot Dogs come in Beef, Cheese, and Plain flavors. I opted to try the Beef flavor because that’s my favorite type of regular-sized hot dog.

Ingredients
Oscar Mayer Mini Hot Dogs, at least the Beef variety, contain the following ingredients: beef, water, contains less than 2% of salt, corn syrup, dextrose, potassium lactate, flavor, hydrolyzed beef stock, sodium phosphates, autolyzed yeast, sodium diacetate, ascorbic acid (Vitamin C), sodium nitrite and extractives of paprika. The front of the traditional-looking Oscar Mayer yellow bag states that this product contains “Quality Beef” and has “No Fillers.”

Nutritional Facts
One serving of Oscar Mayer Mini Hot Dogs, Beef variety, is 4 links. There are 180 calories in a serving, 150 of which are from fat. A serving also contains 16 grams of total fat, 7 grams of saturated fat, 1 gram trans fat, 35 milligrams cholesterol, 520 milligrams of sodium, 2 grams total carbohydrates, 7 grams of protein and less than one gram of sugar.

Quick and Easy Preparation
Since Oscar Mayer Mini Hot Dogs are precooked, all you have to do is heat them up in your microwave. The directions are to place the desired amount on a microwaveable plate, arranged in a circle. Then, microwave the hot dogs on high power until they are heated clear through. 4 hot dogs take about 15 seconds; 8 hot dogs need about 25 seconds, and so on. Let them stand 30 seconds, then enjoy!

Choking Warning
I’ve seen warnings on packages of regular hot dogs about them being choking hazards for children under three years of age. Due to their smaller size, Oscar Mayer Mini Hot Dogs (according to the bag) should be cut “lengthwise and crosswise” into smaller, “bite-sized pieces” for children who are under six years old. Also, the warning states that “children should also be seated and supervised while eating.”

Taste Test and Conclusion
Even though I enjoy eating hot dogs, I had my oldest grandson in mind when I bought a bag of Oscar Mayer Mini Hot Dogs. He likes hot dogs too, and I knew he would think the “kid-sized” links were “cool”.

Since these mini hot dogs are too small to put in a bun, unless you stacked five or six of them in there, they’re best for just snacking. Dip them in catsup, mustard, marinara sauce, chili sauce- whatever your favorite condiment is. I give Oscar Mayer Mini Hot Dogs- at least the Beef type- 10 stars out of 10. My whole family loves to snack on them, and they’re easy to prepare. They’re a little pricey compared to a pack of regular hot dogs, but they’re fun to eat, and they taste great too!
