Old Spice Body Spray: Traditional Fragrance Attracting New Customers

Body Spray, Fathers and Sons, Old Spice

Ok, I know that the line of body spray fragrances introduced by Old Spice were not done so for guys about to turn 48 (September), but still it was nice to see this old familiar friend on store shelves to make it comfortable for guys like me to give the product a try.

Up until now, at my age, even the the thought of “smelling fresh and clean even when you are neither” (right off the Old Spice” label) wasn’t enough to make me buy one of the other available body sprays as I always thought that cashiers would snicker after I left about the “old guy” trying to be cool, or whatever word passes for cool these days.

That has all changed with the introduction of Old Spice’s line of body spray fragrances , as I consider Old Spice to be an “old friend”, and I think most guys my age will agree that pretty much all of had either Old Spice after shave, and or cologne as our first fragrance either bought for us, or proudly purchased ourselves as we started caring about about our personal grooming habits. Guys my age, as well as the targeted younger consumer that Old Spice is really after, now can all enjoy the fresh clean scent of either “Aqua Reef”, “Classic”, “After Hours”, “Pure Sport” or “Showtime” on a daily basis to feel fresher, cleaner and in my case, a bit younger and better about themselves.

Younger consumers will be getting an introduction to tradition when trying Old Spice Body Sprays, and since the strongest human memories are tied to scent, new and old Old Spice users are in for a treat.

Younger consumers will get to hear how “back in the day” Old Spice is what everyone wore to impress the ladies and send out the message, “I smell good, because I am good. Old Spice users were confident, and wearing it was as close to a right of passage as I can think of in those early days of grooming. This sort of mindset still exists today, and the nicest thing of all is that it could a nice sort of “bonding” for fathers and sons during their the son’s introduction to grooming. Slightly older (later teens into the 20’s consumers) will see that “tradition” and quality that made Old Spice what it was still exists today with their body spray line, and the commercials I think reflect as such. I personally think a great commercial showing a father and son discussing or using Old Spice together could not only reinforce the message to new consumers, but attract the traditionalists to the line as well.

Existing, you’ll notice I didn’t say older, consumers will now no longer feel “outdated” for sticking with their old friend, Old Spice through thick and thin, good times and bad, and the bottom line their loyalty will be rewarded.

The Old Spice Body Spray line is clean and refreshing, doesn’t overpower the senses, and quite frankly is a “fun”. I will admit though, that my 19 year-old son had to coach me through how to actually apply it correctly, where, how much etc., but the results may have had the desired effect on my wife as she said simply, “yeah you smell good.” I’m not sure if she was saying it to pacify and or get rid of me, but it made me feel good nonetheless.
