Myachi: A Game for All Ages

Hacky Sack

Myachi is a new age hacky sack-like invention that has a demographic which applies to many. It involves the use of the back of the hand instead of the top of the foot like a conventional hacky sack. Also, the hand sack is not hit around, rather absorbed on the hand, but can still be kicked like a normal hacky sack. The hand sack or myachi was the creation of a once college kid, Steven Ochs, the “Myachi Man.” The idea was conceived when Steven Ochs was in college with a bunch of his buddies and they were completely bored. They started flipping a cigarette lighter on the back of their hands and he thought, “why not make a more usable version of this?” So he went to work the next day on this new inspirational drive of his with a sewing machine and some fabric to create the myachi original hand sack. Later, he sold them around to others while jamming with this new sensation. It was a huge commodity with everyone. He eventually hired more people and made a company to mass market the new idea and thus myachi was born.

The actual myachi hand sack is made up of three components. First, the fabric which comes in many different types ranging from furry flannel to soft suede. There have also been some unusual fabrics like plastic and neoprene. Next, sand is poured into the fabric after it has been sewn around with an opening at the top. Finally, the last part is the signature “myachi” tag that is also sewn in signifying the product is officially from the myachi corporation.

The main objective with the myachi is toss it around on the back of your hands and the top of your feet and to not let it touch the ground or your palms. It seems easy enough, but once the tricks start to get harder to pull off, it will quickly become a challenge to obtain that objective. Some of the easier tricks to get started, however, would be to practice a 360. A 360 is a trick that involves your hand tossing the sack up around six inches while rotating your hand a full 360 degrees around the hand sack and finally catching it on the back of your hand. It will be complicated at first, but after a while it just gets easier. Once the 360 is mastered, more tricks can be learned from the website or made up on the spot with some improvisation. Either way, it’s a fun way to spend your time when you are bored.

Some other objectives of myachi that have been created since the myachi’s invention are Myachi Golf, where the players attempt to score points using their myachi’s as “golf balls” and a bowl as the “hole.” Also, the most popular side game is called MYACH. It has the same rules as Horse or Pig played in basketball. The first player must throw down his or her best move or any challenging move he or she can think of. If he or she lands the trick, then the following players must copy the same moves and land them or else they receive a letter. Once a player spells out “MYACH,” that player is out of the game. The only person to not reach the full spelling of MYACH is the winner.
