Do you know someone who has a new grandchild for the first time? These people are parents, too, and deserve to be recognized this Mother’s Day with something special. To start out, here are some thoughtful gift ideas for new grandmothers.
Framed photo. A picture of the baby for Mother’s Day is a way for Grandma to feel like she is able to see her grandchild more often. Better yet, frame a picture of grandbaby and grandmother. You can find personalized “Grandma” photo frames in stores and online, or you can make your own with a plain frame and some craft supplies. There are many other forms of photos for grandmothers: photo mouse pads, t-shirts, mugs and so on.
Books about grandmas. There are all kinds of inspirational and heartwarming books geared towards grandparents. Warm the new grandmother’s heart with a special book about being a grandparent. Or, you could make your own book with photos of the baby and special information, such as the birth date and all of the baby’s “firsts.
Baby’s handprints/footprints. Carefully apply ink to the baby’s hands or feet then place them on a piece of paper. Wash the ink from your baby’s skin and let the ink dry on the paper. Type or hand write the child’s name and any other information on either the same paper or a separate piece, then frame them together for Grandma.
Fresh flowers. Show your appreciation to the new grandmother on Mother’s Day with a bouquet of fresh flowers and baby’s breath. Cut them from the garden, if you have one. Choose a pretty vase to present them in to the special mother and grandmother. If you are not able to be with Grandma on this day, order flowers ahead of time and have them delivered to her.
Time with baby. What grandmother wouldn’t love a little extra time with her new grandbaby? Let her have some special, alone time to bond with the baby around Mother’s Day. It will be especially meaningful if she doesn’t get to see her grandchild due to distance or time constraints.
Since grandmothers were first of all mothers to their grandchild’s parents, they should not be forgotten on Mother’s Day. It is important to help make her feel loved and appreciated, too. Choose a special gift for Grandma on this holiday from the new baby.
