In other animal news, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is currently reviewing A Tryn, an antithrombin that developer GTC Biotherapeutics says helps prevent blood clots, according to thepetitionsite.com.

“In order to make A Tryn, GTC injects a human gene into the DNA of goat embryos,” states a Petition Site press release.

“I was horrified to read an article on Salon.com last week that described the practice of putting human genes into goats so that pharmaceutical companies can make money from these transgenic animals,” said LiAnna of Care2.com. “Fewer than ten out of every 100 animals injected with the human gene while still in their mother’s womb will be able to produce the altered milk.”

To sign an online petition against the practice, go to http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/106751995 on the Web.

In unrelated news, two blue-ribbon commissions say our oceans are in trouble, according to the Petition Site.

“Now the Bush Administration’s National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has proposed a rule that would gut the environmental review process for fishery management actions and limit the public’s right to participate in those decision,” stated Petition Site literature. It’s time for our nation’s fisheries managers to make better decisions by fully understanding the consequences of fishing on marine ecosystems.

You can tell NMFS to go back to the drawing board by accessing http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/615719269 on the Net.
