Memorial Day Weekend you’ll find plenty of activities, festivals, and venues to visit in Atlanta, Georgia.

Attend a ceremony honoring American veterans and troops, have fun exploring a festival with family and friends, take in a Braves game, or enjoy a fireworks and laser spectacular. Atlanta is the place to be Memorial Day weekend.

Stone Mountainwill honor veterans and soldiers all weekend at Stone Mountain’s one-of-a-kind, spectacular laser show. Stone Mountain’s Memorial Weekend Salute to the Troops includes an all new 25th anniversary laser show.

Additionally, visitors will enjoy a magnificent fireworks display and the all new special effects laser canopy. The laser show begins at 9:30 p.m. and is free with park admission.

Sunday, enjoy a free concert by country music legend Lee Greenwood. The concert will include Greenwood’s hit, “God Bless the U.S.A.” Military bands will also precede the laser show and fireworks display.

Stone Mountain’s Weekend Salute to the Troops will be among the most patriotic and inspiring shows of the Memorial Day weekend.

The culmination of a month of and concerts and events associated with The Atlanta Jazz Festival coincides with Memorial weekend. Enjoy a festival of music, celebration, and fun at Woodruff Park, off Auburn Avenue.

The 2008 Decatur Arts Festival will be held Memorial weekend. The Decatur Arts Festival offers fun and festivities for the entire family. Enjoy Artwalk, a juried Artist market, a children’s festival, and a celebration of other cultural arts. The Children’s Festival is held May 24 in downtown Decatur. May 24th (10am – 6pm) and 25th (11am-6pm) festival visitors will enjoy demonstrations, markets, and festivities associated with visual arts, literary arts, performing arts, and new dance.

A State Memorial Day Ceremony will be held Thursday, May 22, 2008, at Mount Paran Church of God in Atlanta, Georgia, at 11 a.m. According to a press release from Governor Sonny Perdue, “This ceremony will pay tribute to our fallen soldiers, Marines, sailors, and airmen, those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of others.”

The public is invited and encouraged to attend the Memorial Day Ceremony. Keynote speaker is Lt. General Russel Honore, United States Army (Retired).

The Georgia State Memorial Day Ceremony will include a special tribute to honor Georgia servicemen and women who have fallen during operation Enduring Freedom and operation Iraqi Freedom.

The ceremony will be broadcast via GPB streaming video at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 22, 2008. The service will be broadcast on television Sunday, May 25, 2008, at 7:30 p.m.

Georgia’s State Memorial Day Ceremony is a solemn, moving Memorial event, sponsored by the State of Georgia in the true spirit of Memorial Day.

The Atlanta Braves play in town, at Turner Field throughout the Memorial Day weekend. A four game series features an evening game at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and afternoon games Saturday through Monday. The Atlanta Braves will face off against Arizona in the four game series.
