Meditating the Bible Scriptures

The Bible

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success (Joshua 1:8 NKJV).”

The Book of the Law is the Holy Bible, God’s Word to us. The Bible scriptures tell us we’re to place God’s Word within our hearts (Psalms 119:11). In the Bible scriptures is where we’ll come to know Jesus Christ (John 5:39).

The Word Shall Not Depart From Your Mouth
This Bible verse tells us the Book of the Law, the Holy Bible, shall not depart from our mouth. The Bible scriptures should be ingrained into our hearts, becoming a normal part of our daily speech. The ability to speak the Word becomes normal when the Bible scriptures penetrate our daily thought process.

You Shall Meditate Day and Night
Study to shew thyself approved (1Timothy 2:15 KJV).” The word meditate in this Bible verse means to ponder or study. The Holy Bible is still one of the best-selling books ever written, yet the Bible scriptures are still one of the least read books. We live in an age when the majority professes to be Christian, yet the majority doesn’t fully understand what the Bible scriptures say about the Creator.

Observe To Do According To All
This portion of this Bible verse gets us in trouble. We tend to “cherry-pick” the Bible scriptures. We choose the ones we like and discard the ones we don’t. This Bible verse commands to do all God’s Word tells us to do. We can listen to the Bible scriptures easily enough. Doing the Word is much harder, especially when personal sacrifice is required. One Bible verse tells us we’re deceiving ourselves if we hear the Word and don’t do it (James 1:22).

Prosperous and Good Success
This Bible verse ends with a promise: “for then you will make your way prosperous.” The word way means the entire course of our lives. If the Bible scriptures become our speech, through daily study, and we’re obedient to them, the entire course of our lives will be prosperous.

The promise of this Bible verse finishes with “then you’ll have good success.” Good success means understanding, wisdom, and intelligence. When we place each Bible verse deep within our hearts, the Bible scriptures possess the ability to impart understanding, wisdom, and intelligence.

Conclusion of the Matter
We must get into the Bible scriptures daily. Study each Bible verse. Ponder each Bible verse. Place the Bible scriptures within our hearts. Let the Bible scriptures become our daily speech. We must become obedient to the Word of God. Not only to selected parts of cherry-picked verses, but obedient to all of the Bible scriptures. God gives us the promise if we do so, our lives will prosper and our understanding will be opened to wisdom and intelligence.

We attend schools to earn degrees and doctorates. However, the only knowledge we’ll take with us when we leave this life is the knowledge of who and what God is. This knowledge is readily available within the Book of the Law, God’s Holy Bible. Jesus said, “Search the scriptures, they testify of me (John 5:39).”
