McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes: Review

Kraft Foods

If there is one thing I love, it is sweets. A meal is not truly complete for me unless I have something sweet to round off my meal. My favourite sweets and desserts are British, Greek and other European sweets, so I was pleased to be able to stock up on two boxes of McVitie’s® Jaffa Cakes on my recent trip home for less than £1.00 total ($1.43).

Impressions

McVitie’s® Jaffa Cakes have been around for generations, but they still manage to excite each successive generation that comes along. I was no exception. Each attractively packaged 100g box of McVitie’s® Jaffa Cakes contains 12 cakes, wrapped in plastic. Original Jaffa Cakes are a blend of round bittersweet chocolate cakes over a light orange sponge centre. As you bite into each Jaffa Cake, you can feel the soft centre and taste the thin layer of chocolate, which is a great combination.

Vegetarians and Allergy Sufferers

McVitie’s® Jaffa Cakes are suitable for vegetarians, but they contain milk, eggs, soya and gluten. If you are allergic to any of these ingredients, McVitie’s® Jaffa Cakes will not be a suitable product for you to try.

Nutrition

Each McVitie’s® Jaffa Cake contains 193 kJ and 46 kcal, 0.6g protein, 8.6g carbohydrates, of which 6.5g sugars, 1g fat, 0.5g saturates, 0.3g fibre, and just a trace of sodium. According to McVitie’s®, this product has been recommended by sports nutritionists, who feel that this is a nutritionally balanced snack that even athletes can indulge in while they are training for sporting events.

Similar Brands

In the UK and Republic of Ireland, Jaffa Cakes are sold under the McVitie’s® (United Biscuits) brand. They are also known as Pim’s Orange by Kraft Foods in America and Delicje by E. Wedel in Poland. If you cannot find McVitie’s® Jaffa Cakes in your local supermarket, you can still enjoy the delicious taste of this cake by choosing Pim’s Orange or Delicje.

Recommendation

I love the taste of McVitie’s® Jaffa Cakes and have enjoyed eating them for years. They are low in calories, fat and sodium. I find it difficult to limit myself to just one or two jaffa cakes. Jaffa Cakes are a real treat and taste great anytime, whether it is as a mid-morning snack or as a dessert in the evening. McVitie’s® Jaffa Cakes come in many other flavours, such as strawberry, but the orange centred variety is the original, and in my opinion, the best.
