Mayan Calender Predictions for December 21, 2012

Mayans

An examination of the Mayan calendar predictions for December 21, 2012, has a number of people very much on edge. The Mayan civilization was very advanced and their calender was even more precise than our own. However, it ends December 21, 2012 and people want to know why.

Many cultures around the world have predicted doom for this precise date and with the year 2012 being so close, dooms day scenarios are popping up all around. One of particular interest which many associate with the Mayans is the galactic alignment taking place in the universe which is said to have the potential to change our lives forever.

Basically, the sun and planets are lining up with the center of the milky way and apparently this galactic alignment could cause major disturbances on the earth such as mega-earthquakes, volcano eruptions, tsunamis, and hurricanes. These events are predicted to be frequent and extremely intense.

The Mayans were obsessed with time keeping and they made exact predictions of events that happened several hundred years into the future. But why did they end their calender on a date that coincides with so many other end time prophecies?

The Mayan Long Count calendar, which in all probability was inherited from other Meso-American cultures, had a refined system where events could be recorded in linear time. However, it ended on December 21, 2012. The Mayans suffered foreign invasion, overpopulation, disease and environmental disaster. The truth could very well be that they simply couldn’t get around to finishing it.

New age groups believe its end signifies the end of the world by cataclysmic events and the entrance into a new age. But many of the experts who study the Mayans believe this theory to be a serious misinterpretation. Still, as we near the year 2012 we are seeing these disturbing events taking place in the universe.

There are a variety of theories and opinions as to what may happen. A number of dooms day enthusiasts are shouting, “run for the hills! Go to your safe place!”

However, if everything happens the way they say it will, there will be no safe place anywhere on earth. No one could survive the kind of events they’re describing.

Christians believe the End Times described by Jesus Christ is quickly approaching and that we are on the verge of the great tribulation and the Antichrist.

“For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.”

“Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. Behold, I have told you before.” (Matt. 24)

The Mayans were incredibly advanced and scientists today are baffled by their culture. Did the Mayans deliberately end their calender on December 21, 2012 because they believed the world would come to an end, or because it begins the new age? Could it be the End Times that Jesus warned us to watch for?

Anyone who reads Matt. 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 will see what the Lord said about the “beginning of sorrows,” and what would follow. The things he described are happening around us today and for the first time in history, everything is in place for the Antichrist to be revealed.

The book of Daniel says that in the last days knowledge will be increased and it certainly has. He’s coming back. Do you know what to look for?

“And then the sign of the son of man shall appear in the sky… Many shall be deceived.” Do you know what the sign of the Son of man is? Those who don’t know their Bible will be the ones who will be easily deceived. There are things we need to know and time is running out.

The Mayan calender predictions for December 21, 2012 are not the only prophecies associated with this time in our history. There is general unrest worldwide and many cultures are anticipating some kind of phenomenal event to occur within the next ten to twenty years.

It was the same way when Jesus Christ was born. There was an air of apprehension in all cultures that something major was about to happen which of course did when Jesus began his ministry.

Now, more than ever, as the return of our Savior draws near, we need to be watching and preparing to meet our Lord. Those who belong to him will be caught up (raptured) to meet him in the air. Do you belong to the King?

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14)

Those who are caught up with him will also return with him.

Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” (Rev.1:7-8)
