Mama Rosie’s Frozen Jumbo Stuffed Shells

When I ate dinner at a friend’s house recently, he and his wife served a very tasty rendition of Italian – style, large stuffed shells. It wasn’t until we were almost done eating that my friend’s wife told me that the stuffed shells we were eating were actually frozen stuffed shells that took her only minutes to heat and serve. The brand of frozen stuffed shells that she was referring to are Mama Rosie’s Jumbo Stuffed Shells. Prior to her saying that, I thought that the dinner we were eating was prepared from – scratch.

The stuffed shells we were eating were ample in size and were stuffed with a delicious ricotta cheese filling that really complemented the shells. I thought that the stuffed shells we were eating were just as good as any stuffed shells that I’d ever eaten in an Italian restaurant and I was very impressed with them. So impressed, in fact, that I have decided to write a product review of them.

Presented here, as a service to the consumer at large, is one food writer’s product review of Mama Rosie’s frozen Jumbo Stuffed Shells.

Size
The net weight of the standard – sized package of Mama Rosie’s Jumbo Stuffed Shells is 20 ounces. According to the package label, the container holds approximately 18 one piece servings. Personally, I think that two pieces of these stuffed shells is a more accurate serving size. In physical size, the container is not too big and does not take up excessive freezer space.

Price
The regular retail price charged for one ounce package of Mama Rosie’s Jumbo Stuffed Shells at Hartford, Connecticut area supermarkets is approximately $2.99. To me, the retail price of these stuffed shells is very reasonable, considering the great taste, convenience and overall high quality of the product.

Texture
The texture of Mama Rosie’s Jumbo Stuffed Shells is one of the components that makes eating them so enjoyable. When cooked according to package directions, the shells are tender, yet slightly firm and are accented well by the delicious ricotta cheese filling. When covered with tomato sauce, these stuffed shells offer a combination of textures that really satisfy.

Since I really like contrasting food textures, I particularly enjoy eating these stuffed shells along with some crusty Italian or French bread and / or a salad. The resulting amalgamation of textures is very nice and provides for an excellent meal.
