Little Debbie Chocolate Pie

Chocolate Pie, Little Debbie

For many years, I have been a big fan and regular consumer of Little Debbie snack cakes and I’m always eager to try any new items that are introduced. A few weeks ago, I saw the single serving size Little Debbie Chocolate Pie for the first time and I immediately purchased two of the pies.

After eating this pie more than once, I think that it would be a good product to review. Presented here, is one food writer’s product review of the Little Debbie Chocolate Pie.

Size
The net weight of the standard – sized package of Little Debbie Chocolate Pie is four ounces (113 grams). According to the package’s nutrition facts label, one pie counts as one serving. This pie supplied me with two servings, because I ate only one half of the pie at a time. This is largely because I am trying to limit my sugar and fat intake.

In physical size, the package measures approximately 5.25″ x 2.75″.

Price
The suggested retail price that is printed on the front label of the Little Debbie Chocolate Pie is $0.75c. This price seems very reasonable to me.

Texture / Consistency
This packaged pie offers two distinct textures. The crust that envelopes the chocolate filling is firm, yet appropriately soft and it features a light, sugary dusting on top.

The chocolate filling in the Little Debbie Chocolate Pie resembles chocolate pudding, but seems just a little bit lighter. The two textures work well together, but, as with most packaged pies, there is more crust than filling. If this pie contained more chocolate filling, I think that the overall texture would be more appealing.

Taste / Flavor
While for the most part, I enjoyed eating both of the Little Debbie Chocolate Pie’s that I recently purchased, in my humble opinion, there is room for improvement. Being a lover of pies and all things chocolate, I couldn’t wait to try this item, as soon as I saw it. Unfortunately, the actual flavor of the pie did not leave me feeling satisfied.

Through the years, I have eaten many different brands and flavors of packaged, single serving pies. A commonality shared by many of these pies, including the Little Debbie Chocolate Pie is the preponderance of crust and lack of filling. Each time I ate one of these pies, what I tasted was primarily the sweet crust.

The chocolate filling in this pie tastes very good. The problem is, there isn’t enough of it. The pie still tastes great. It just needs more chocolate filling. On a flavor scale of one through ten, I would assign this product a rating of 8.75.

Packaging
Little Debbie Chocolate Pie is packaged in a sturdy cardboard box. The front label features a close-up illustration of the enclosed pie and a picture of a smiling Little Debbie and the rear label lists all pertinent ingredient and nutritional information.

Overall Rating
In theory, I love this product. In reality however, I feel that it could be improved by including more chocolate filling and less crust in the pie. It still offers a pleasing snack cake – experience and is inexpensively priced. Little Debbie Chocolate Pie is recommended, with reservations concerning the amount of filling contained in the pie.
