Licorice Root for Asthma and Lung Infections

Asthma Treatment, Licorice, Licorice Root, Respiratory System

Over the past couple of months I have suffered from server asthma attacks and nasty lung infections. Doctors put me on inhalers and heavy steroids to help me breathe easier, but these types of medicines came with multiple side effects that made me really out of it. I simply couldn’t stand the prescription drugs anymore so I decide to try and herbal remedy called licorice root. Licorice root is been used for many years as a Chinese herbal medicine to help relieve respiratory problems and so far since I have been taking it my respiratory systems has improved greatly.

The reason why licorice root has worked so well with controlling my asthma attacks is because it contains compounds in it called glycrrhizins and flavonoids. These compounds help relieve bronchial spasms and block the free radical cells that produce the inflammation and tightening of the air ways that are causing the asthma attack. The compounds also have antibacterial and antiviral effects to them as well which helps fight off viral and bacterial strains in the body that can cause lung infections. Glycrrhizins and flavonoids can even help prevent lung cancer cells from forming which means your are helping your lungs prevent lung cancer. Licorice root also as an expectorant which helps loosen up the thick yellow, green, or clear mucus in the respiratory system so we can cough it up out of our lungs so we can breathe easier. This is why licorice root is one of the best herbal remedies for treating and preventing asthma and relieving lung infections.

The different forms you can get licorice root in are pill, lose leaf and my personal favorite tea. This herbal remedy can be found in all of its forms as and herbal store or health food store. I know I can get my licorice root tea from my local grocery store in the organic tea section. The reason I use the licorice tea is because the tea is warm really helps break up the tick mucus in my respiratory system so I can breathe more easily and faster. Plus I think the licorice root works better in the form of a tea and helps calm and relieve stress as well which also helps me recover from and asthma attack faster.

The amount of licorice root you want to use to help treat, prevent and heal a lung infection all depends on what your body needs. The best way to find out what dose of licorice root is best is by talking to your doctor. It is also important to talk to your doctor before taking this herbal supplement because there are some pretty serious side effects such as high blood pressure and water retention. Licorice root may even interact with some of the prescription drugs you are on so that is another important reason to talk to your doctor before taking it to help treat your asthma and lung infections. It is also important to know that it is always best to continue the asthma treatment you are already on along with using the licorice root because some asthma attacks can be so server that they could cause possibly death. Licorice root doesn’t always help treat server asthma attacks, but it can help lessen the amount of attacks you have if taken properly. It is also important to know licorice root can not cure all lung infections, but it doesn’t help treat and cure most.
