The Zhu Zhu toy hamster was a toy sought by many moms, aunts, grandmothers and others. There just did not seem to be enough on the shelves to meet the demand before Christmas shopping season of 2009. Will the Kung Zhu hamsters be the toy challenge for shoppers this year?
I ran across a display ofKung Zhu hamsters and the Battle Armor at a local Wall-Mart. I purchased two hamsters and two sets of armor not knowing if my grandsons were interested. I did spend a lot of time last year shopping for Zhu Zhu hamsters and accessories for my granddaughter and did not want to pass up a chance to get these toys.
They have all enjoyed playing with the Zhu Zhu hamsters. A call to my daughter later affirmed my thoughts. Of course these toys were wanted. I was unaware of the TV commercials that my daughter said were being shown for these new toy hamsters and their gear. So, needless to say, I was pleased that I had picked up the toys.
Of course the toy hamsters are only the beginning. The two hamsters I purchased are described below:
Rock’o
Rock’o who is part of the Special Forces team. This hamster has tan fur with a tan muzzle, ears and spots as well as a tan emblem on this back. Rock’o is identified as being a First Lieutenant. A quick trip to the official website clued me in to the fact that Rock’o is in charge of communications and technology. The armor I purchased for Rock’o apparently turns him into Dune Tracker. The package with the armor contains a Tablet of Zhu where Rock’o can Power Up.
Azer
Azer is part of the Ninja Warriors. This hamster is tan with a white muzzle and white spot over one eye and a white emblem on his back. The official website noted that Azer is the older brother of Drayko, a black hamster with a white emblem on his back. The website also states that Azer created the skull clan. Apparently he is not friends with Sgt. Serge.
Training
The hamsters receive training from special areas within different accessories that are available to form a complex set. In addition to the expected talk, explore and sleep modes the hamsters receive training from battle codes.
Battle
These Special Operation hamsters and Ninja Warrior hamsters can be trained for battle. When they don their armor special battle codes are loaded from the Tablets of Zhu and also when they pass through special areas of the battle arena.
In battle the hamsters will attach each other for three minutes. A winner is determined when an opponent is tipped over and put into sleep mode.
Accessories:
On the back of the toy’s box there is a picture of the hamster battleground that can be formed with the accessories for these toys. There are a number of vehicles also such as a jet fighter and tanks. Apparently the toy hamsters can travel through the tubes from one station to another but are limited when they have on their battle armor.
A newspaper article from the St. Louis Post Dispatch on the Kung Zhu website mentioned that these toys should not be as difficult to find in stores. This will be good news for the many parents and family members who will be doing the shopping.
