Beagles, Family Movies

Kids love animal movies. There are a lot of great animal movies featuring cats, dogs, monkeys, and more. Some of the movies my family enjoys the most feature beagles. We love beagles and we like to see them on the big screen. Beagles are can be bold, aggressive, but they are also loving and devoted. Beagles are great pets, but they also make great movie stars. in some of the best family, action adventure films.

The following movies are family, action adventure films for the entire family.

Family Beagle Movie: Underdog
In this fun movie, released in 2007, Shoeshine, a bomb-sniffing beagle, bungles his job and is fired by the mayor. Dognapped from the pound by a mad scientist, Shoeshine is exposed to a potion which gives him superpowers. Shoeshine escapes the mad scientist and winds up back in the pound.

A widowed security guard and ex-cop, Dan Unger, played by James Belushi, adopts Shoeshine in an attempt to connect with his withdrawn and angry teenage son Jack, played by Alex Nueberger. Jack discovers Shoeshine’s powers and tries to keep it secret. Meanwhile, Shoeshine, disguised as Underdog becomes a superhero to the city.

All the while, Simon Barsinister, the mad scientist, tries to capture Shoeshine. The movie climaxes when Barsinister corners a girl and her dog in which Jack and Shoeshine have taken an interest. It’s up to Jack and Shoeshine to save not only the girls, but the city from the evil scientist.

Underdog is simple fantasy and clear-cut good versus evil film. It’s full of fun, action, and adventure kids will enjoy.

Family Beagle Movie: Shiloh
Shiloh, based on the Newberry award winning novel by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, is heartwarming movie with depth, character, and drama. Marty Preston, the child of a rural family, finds Shiloh, a runaway beagle that has been beaten and injured. Shiloh is on the run from Judd Travers, a spiteful old hunter and his abusive owner.

Marty treats the beagle, but his dad insists Shiloh must be returned to his owner. Travers repeatedly beats the beagle. Shiloh runs away again and again returning to Marty for comfort.

Shiloh’s plight breaks Marty’s heart. Unable to see Shiloh’s mistreatment anymore, he tries to hide the beagle from his family.

The movie is intense at times, but it is a touching family film reflecting difficult life lessons and unexpected blessings. I recommend watching Shiloh with your kids. The movie will provide your family with quality discussion topics.
