Kids Crafts to Cars: Creative Uses to Recycle Your Pantyhose

Pantyhose, Sachets

Whether you love pantyhose because they make your legs look sexy and silky smooth, or you despise pantyhose because they are so uncomfortable, the fact is that most any woman has a few pairs floating around somewhere in the house. The lingerie drawer has a stash of pantyhose in it. Some hose are really nice for your short skirts and dresses while other pairs of pantyhose may be for longer skirts or pants. The older pairs of hose have a snag or something that can be hidden under certain clothing, but when you get a large run in your pantyhose, is it time to race for the trash can?

Just because your pantyhose has a run in them doesn’t mean it is time to toss them into the garbage. There are so many terrific ways to reuse and recycle your hose. Keep a small bag or container of pantyhose around for other uses. You can make crafts or find practical uses for your stockings.

If you can salvage a piece of the pantyhose from the toe up about 12 inches, you can use this section to make a fun craft. Kids will love making or receiving this craft. It is easy to make a homemade version of a Chia pet. I call the project a grass head pet. Simply place grass seed in the piece of pantyhose. Use enough to fill the toe portion. Next, add a supply of saw dust. You will be able to slightly shape the craft into a round head-like shape. Securely knot the pantyhose tightly to hold the products in place. If you wish to trim the end of the hose, this may make the craft appearance more appealing, but be careful not to trim a portion of the knot. Doing so may result in a mess.

Allow the craft to soak in water overnight. Place the head on a plate or plastic lid and allow the craft to do its magic. Children can decorate the face with markers once the project has dried.

Soon, your grass head will grow beautiful green, grassy hair. My kids love to let the grass hair grow a few inches then give their grass hair a trim. You can give it a buzz cut or a Mohawk.

Sachets are very popular, but often extremely expensive. You can make your own from old pantyhose and knee highs. Cut a section of hose off about a foot above the toe or use a knee high for this project. Fill the pantyhose generously with rosemary, dried flowers, or potpourri. Be certain to leave room to tie the sachet closed. Hang the sachet in the closet or place in your dresser drawers to enjoy the fabulous scent.

Dress up the sachets for a terrific gift. Tie a fancy ribbon or some lace around the outside of the sachet to add beauty to the craft project. A personalized message can be a nice touch. Simply write a small poem or thought on a tag and tie to the knot in the sachet. Box several sachets together to make a special gift for that special someone on your list.

Keep a pair of hose stashed away in the glove box of your car. It can really come in handy if your belt should break. Tying the hose and using them as a makeshift belt may get you to the auto parts store. Amazing how the product that supports your legs for walking can keep you from walking in this instance.

Do you recycle newspapers? If you are bundling up your newspapers and find that you are out of string, grab a pair of your pantyhose. The pantyhose will tie up your stack of papers quickly and easily. They are strong enough to hold a nice amount of newspapers.

Here is another great tip for a way to use some of those pieces of pantyhose. When it is time to groom your pet, place a section of pantyhose over your grooming brush. The bristles will be able to poke right through the pantyhose. Groom your cat or dog as usual. When you are finished grooming, pull up on the pantyhose and the fur will come right off. There is no need to pick and pluck between the bristles to get all of that fur.

You can use a piece of pantyhose as a strainer. Stretch a piece of pantyhose over a bowl or large can. The liquid will pass through, but any solid items will remain on top of the hose.

Place a small piece of pantyhose over the end of your vacuum cleaner attachment to help find a missing item. Use a tight rubber band to hold the piece of pantyhose in place. Have you just lost a diamond in your wedding ring? You may be able to find it easily with this tip. The hose will allow suction, but will keep small items in place for ease when locating.

Pantyhose aren’t just for legs anymore. From your car to crafts, there are so many ways to put your old hose to good use. Put the strength and durability of pantyhose to good use with these practical and fun tips.
