Kid’s Crafts: How to Make a Noah’s Ark

Noahs Ark

Growing up a good Catholic school girl, I always loved the bible story of Noah’s Ark. And now, as a Sunday school teacher I noticed my students also show great interest in this biblical fable that demonstrates strength, courage, faith and hope. Of course, the kids also enjoy hearing about all of their favorite animals traveling two by two on this adventurous seafaring journey.

One of my tasks at work is to incorporate a relatable craft into the weekly scripture and so I have created an adorable Noah’s Ark project to do at home or at school. For this Noah’s Ark craft, begin by purchasing brown, light blue and dark blue sheets of large construction paper. You will also need glue, silver or blue glitter, animal and goldfish crackers and crayons or markers.

Use a full piece of light blue construction paper as your background. From the brown paper, cut out a boat image. A half circle works best as the base while a rectangle can be attached vertically for the ark’s center. And a small triangle makes for a perfect roof. If you are really creative, you can also cut a few windows out of your boat. Glue the pieces onto the middle of the blue construction paper.

Next, cut waves out of the dark blue paper and glue them to the very bottom portion of the boat. Lightly spread some glue onto your waves and then sprinkle on some blue or silver glitter to create a shimmering effect. Now, affix some goldfish crackers onto your sparkling waves.

Finally, choose pairs of animal crackers and adhere them to the ark. Use three to four sets of animals and then encourage the kids to draw suns, clouds, birds and even Noah, using markers or crayons. If you have scraps of colored construction paper, the children can use those to cut out the above objects as well.

When you have finished your Noah’s Ark craft, your students will be happy to snack on the leftover crackers. Just be sure to do this project with age appropriate children who won’t be tempted to eat the glue!
