Katie Holmes’ New Pixie Haircut

Pixie, Pixie Cut, Pixie Haircut

Media outlets are reporting that Tom Cruise’s wife, Katie Holmes, has gotten a new haircut, which is being called a “pixie haircut.” Katie Holmes’ pixie haircut takes her dark tresses to an even shorter state. The pixie haircut style is a throwback from the late 80s and early 90s. Fashionistas are weighing in on Katie Holmes pixie cut. Love it or hate it, celebrity hairstylists are taking note of Katie’s new pixie and making their opinions known.

It’s just hair. It will grow back.

While the Internet goes crazy with reports of Katie Holmes’ new pixie haircut, I have not seen any reports of Katie’s dislike of the new pixie cut. The Associated Press did note that Katie Holmes is a trendsetter and after she chopped off her long hair last year in favor of a bob style hair cut, people took notice then too and many mimicked her new bob style. Will American women rush out to get the new Katie Holmes pixie cut just as they did for the Katie’s bob last year?

Bad haircuts: A rite of passage for women

My husband once joked that a bad haircut mattered to him for about two weeks, the length of time that it takes for his hair to outgrow a bad haircut. For me, however, a bad haircut lasts months longer. If I were to chop my hair Katie Holmes’ style into a pixie cut, it would take the better part of a year to grow back. Women fear bad haircuts for just this reason. A bad haircut means extra work primping until we can feel presentable to the public.

In the past, I have had my share of bad haircuts. Hidden from view, I have pictures of myself under the age of ten with a horrific permed bob hairstyle. More recently, a few years ago, I went for a haircut and got a horrid cut. Once I had chosen the style I wanted from a book at the stylist’s salon, I eagerly awaited the reveal once my hair was cut and styled. However, during the haircut, something went wrong, far wrong, and I should have known it was not going to be good when my sister started gasping. My stylist had taken my eyeglasses, so I was unaware of the extent of the damage until the very end.

The style was not at all what I expected and was more of a bob hair cut of just the top of my hair. It was horrible and I very nearly cried since I knew then it would take a very long time to be able to style my hair the way that I wanted it to look. I complained to my boss, an attorney, and asked if I could sue (half-jokingly) and he told me it couldn’t be that bad. So, I took my hair down out of my pony-tail (yes, I was reduced as a grown woman in her 20s to wearing a child-like pony tail to work) to which my boss left the room guffawing the whole way. Yes, indeed, it was going to be a long 6 months.
