Should you join an online moms support group? The answer is a resounding, yes! I have been a member of an online moms support group for the past four years and it has been a wonderful experience so far. There are so many reasons why you should join and I will outline them all below.
Find answers to all your child-rearing questions
Whether you’re a first-time mom or a seasoned mom of four there are always questions arising with your children. Whichever end of the spectrum you fall on, you will be able to find the help and/or support that you’re looking for. There’s no better feeling than connecting with other moms who are in the same situation as you.
Meet new friends
Perhaps you’re new to the area or perhaps you’re the only one of your friends who has children. Life can sometimes get a little lonely and maybe you’re looking to make some new mom friends. Well, an online moms group is a great place to start. A lot of the online moms groups will also have playgroups for kids, which is a great way to make mom friends. In addition, you will find that these moms groups also plan moms night out “MNO” or even park dates and coffee dates. I have made some really great friends through my moms group. These are people who I probably wouldn’t have met in any other circumstances, due to the size of our town.
Networking
Perhaps you need to find a job or perhaps you would like to promote your business. Either way, an online moms group is a great place to do this. However, you have to be careful that promoting your business is not your only interaction with the moms group. People will not respond very well if all they see are posts about you promoting your business. However, if you are an active member, this can be a very positive situation for your business. For example, my husband is a contractor and I frequently refer him out in my moms group. However, I am also very active and have met lots of members in person, so this has been a wonderful experience for me.
Find out what’s going on in your community and the world
An online moms group is a great way to keep informed of all the important events that are happening, locally and worldwide. Because most likely, if it’s an important event, somebody will have posted about it on the forums.
Get opinions from a variety of people
Let’s say you need some advice about a situation regarding a friend or a family member. An online moms group can be a great support system to get advice. One word of caution, don’t complain about another member of the same moms group, it will turn into an ugly situation fast, and you will probably be kicked off.
Think before you post
This is something I’m still learning about. It would nice to say exactly how you feel about every subject that is being talked about, but sometimes you do have to bite your tongue. If you have 3000 people in your online moms group, you will have of a lot of different opinions. If you do too much arguing with other members of the group, you might be asked to leave.
How do I find a mom’s online group in my neighborhood?
Very simple, you can Google “online moms group in my city”. Most likely several groups will pop up in your area. The group that I belong to is free, but I’m aware there are several groups you have to pay for. If you find several groups and don’t know which one to join, I would try and attend an event with each group to see which moms are a better fit for you.
