Jessica Simpson “Dessert Treats” Sweet Talk Lip Gloss Set

I’m not really a lip gloss fan. I always find that lip gloss makes my lips look greasy, and I have never been able to find a gloss that did not feel like I had just wiped oil slicks or melted tar on my lips.

When I came across a set of 6 glosses though, I went ahead and bought them, only because they were pretty and only a dollar. The set was by Jessica Simpson, and is part of her Dessert Treats. This set of Jessica Simpson “Dessert Treats” Sweet Talk Lip Glosses came with all 6 of the flavors that are used over and over again in her product line.

The line up of glosses included, cotton candy, lollipop, banana split, butterscotch toffee, bubble gum, and peppermint.

For those of you who have never heard or seen the Jessica Simpson line of Dessert Treats, let me give you a bit of a summary on what they are.

All of the Jessica Simpson Dessert Treats are edible. I have found that all of them taste terrible; but the concept is basically a bunch of body products that you partner or you can lick off of your body. Her line includes lickable body frosting, whipped cream, body sprays, and perfume, all of which are supposedly yummy. (Toxic tasting).

The Sweet Talk Lip Gloss Set however is for your lips. It’s really a treat for just you…unless you kiss someone.

Each of the mini glosses have micro glitter in them, and are colored. When you apply them the result is a hint of color on your lips with little shards of micro glitter in it for shine.

I have hated every single product I had ever tried in Jessica Simpson’s Dessert Treat line, so really I had no high hopes for the glosses. I tried each one though just to see how well they worked, and to see if they tasted any good.

1. Butterscotch Toffee- This little number has a golden tint to it. It glides on smoothly, and actually gave my lips a nice fall colored sheen. The taste…yum! I was not expecting this. I figured it would taste like crap like the rest of her products. I can honestly say though it wasn’t bad; in fact it was good.

2. Cotton Candy- This gloss left behind a really noticeable hot pink tint to my lips. Seeing how hot pink is not a color that goes well with my skin, it looked pretty fugly. The taste was decent though, and realistic to actual cotton candy. Although I could not wear it alone due to it’s high hot pink color, it does look nice over some darker lipstick.

3. Lollipop- It leaves behind a trail of bling bling red on your lips. Seeing how red is not my color either, I hated it. The taste however was cherry like. Seeing how it didn’t blend well or sit well on top of other lipsticks, I gave this one away.

4. Banana Split– I hate bananas, and this one tastes just like it, with a hint of chocolate. Banana split also leaves behind a brown/gold tint on your lips, and is thicker than the rest of the glosses in the set. Overall this was my least favorite gloss in the set.

5. Bubble Gum- This gloss is a nice pale pink, however when I glided the gloss across my lips I barely noticed any color tint. It was sort of like wiping on clear gloss with a bubble gum flavor. The flavor tastes like those old hard sticks of gum they used to put in baseball cards. The taste is not bad, but it’s not great either.

6. Peppermint- Yech! The tint left behind on your lips is a reddish pink. It’s sort of a nice combination of colors left behind on your lips,; if you can actually stomach the flavor and harsh peppermint scent left behind. I myself am not really a fan of peppermint unless it’s Christmas time. This gloss leaves behind a strong taste and scent of it, which as a result turns my stomach. For those who like peppermint, this gloss would be a winner.

Last-

The glosses leave behind a nice shiny glow for about an hour. The scent also remains, as does the taste. I’m sure the gloss would last longer if I didn’t lick my lips so much.

Feel:

The gloss can be felt on your lips, I won’t lie and say it is as light as a feather and you can’t even feel it on your lips. You can feel it, however it is not a nasty gunky oil slick feeling.

Overall:

Basically I love some of them, and hate some of them. Seeing how I enjoyed most of them, and were disappointed with only a few of them, I consider it a slight win, especially for only a buck.
