Columbus Ohio’s Veterans Day Celebration is an annual event that invites all those Ohioans living in central Ohio to take some time out of Veterans Day Weekend and visit Columbus for a well organized and orchestrated celebration of our nations veterans. Ranked among our nations 50 most populous cities Columbus Ohio and its residents welcome the opportunity to once again show gratitude through Columbus Ohio’s Veterans Day Celebration to those in the armed services now and throughout our nation’s history.

Columbus Ohio If you don’t live in the Columbus Ohio area then you may not be aware of what a populous city Columbus is. In 2005 Columbus Ohio was ranked as the city with the 15th largest population in the United States. It has held that rank for the last 5 years . With a population totaling almost three quarters of a million people and as a city located in a populous state, Columbus Ohio would seem an ideal place to hold Veterans Day Celebration.

What makes Columbus Ohio an even better place to hold a Veterans Day Celebration is the fact that is a hefty Veterans population. Approximately 110,000 American Veterans call Columbus home, a healthy percent of the total city population. When it comes time each year to hold Columbus Ohio ‘s Veterans Day Celebration, local citizens are celebration all American Veterans but with a special vigor they are support and celebrating those Veterans who are neighbors and family members and who share life in the state of Ohio.

Parade 2007. Columbus Ohio’s Veterans Day Celebration has been designated for a rather unique day. Mayor Michael Coleman of Columbus, Ohio has indicated that the date for Columbus Ohio’s Veterans Day Celebration will be Friday, November 9. While in many areas Veterans Day parades will step out on Saturday, Sunday or even Monday, Columbus has chosen to be distinct and to hold its parade on Friday .

The Parade itself will begin at noon from Nationwide Plaza and proceed from South to Main St. The Grand Marshall for the 2007 Columbus Ohio’s Veterans Day Celebration is Ron Rosser who is a Korean War Medal of Honor recipient. It is interesting to note that among the many veterans that will be honored in Columbus on November 9, included must be the Mayor’s own son who is a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. Columbus Ohio’s Veterans Day Parade is a very personal affair.

More than a Parade. When residents of Columbus Ohio set time aside to honor their veterans they are serious about it. Columbus Ohio’s Veterans Day Celebration activities begin well before the first street beat is struck. and before spectators begin to take their places along the parade route. Beginning at 10 a.m. for those there will be military and patriotic music provided for those who can arrange their work and family obligations to be allow them to be among those congregating at City Hall’ s South Portman Plaza

At 10:30 the music presentation will transition to a Veterans Day Program with appropriate commentary and display of colors also at Columbus,Ohio
city Hall Plaza.. AT 11 a.m. those gathered will participate in a Memorial Service with guest speaker Lieutenant General Jack Hudson, Commander of Aeronautical Systems Center at WPAFB.

Words eventually will turn into action and the much awaited annual parade will wind its way through Columbus Ohio giving all a chance to honor veterans who have served or are currently serving in army, navy, air force, marines or coast guard. Residents of Columbus, Ohio and central Ohio natives can be proud of this half day program that both entertains and provides citizens with a chance to show support and respect for the our miltary.
