Jason Bourne, Ludlum, The Bourne Identity

Matt Damon returns as Jason Bourne in “The Bourne Ultimatum” opening in theaters this Friday August 3rd. Let the action begin.

The third movie has Bourne wanting to disappear. Instead is hunted by people who made him what he is. Bourne lost his memory and the one he loved in the first two episodes. Now he is evading bullets and highly trained people that are out to get him.

Bourne has one objective, to go back where he came from and find out who he was and why he did as he was trained. In this episode he must track down his past to find out his future.

This movie has him going to Moscow, Paris, Madrid, London, Tangier, and finally New York, all the time trying to dodge hit men, police, federal agents and interpol agents.

Joan Allen returns as Pamela Landy. So does Julia Stiles as Nicky Parsons. Newcomers include Scott Glenn, Albert Finney, David Strathiam and Paddy Considine as Ross.

The first two movies “The Bourne Identity” and “The Bourne Supremacy” made over 500 million dollars together. This one is packed with exciting action and quickness. Oh yea! And it has another car chase. Although it will be hard to top[ the car chases from the first two movies.

The first movie had Bourne losing his identity and memory while on an assignment of assassination for Treadstone. After finally getting Treadstone to close down, he moved to a seaside village with his true love Maria Kreutz (Franka Potente). In the second movie, an assassination attempt on his life goes awry and Maria is killed. This puts Bourne on the move to find out why they are trying to come after him. As it turned out, he was being used as a convenient setup man to take the fall.

Bourne is a fictional character in a series of stories by Robert Ludlum and then picked up by Eric Van Lustbader. The first novel “The Bourne Identity” came out in 1980. It was adapted for television in 1988. It then hit the big screen with Matt Damon in 2002. His real name is David Webb. Before he lost his memory, he was an agent working for a government program called Medusa. In the movie though it is called Treadstone.

After “The Ultimatum”, there are still two more stories that could possibly produced in the future. They are the “Bourne Legacy” and the “Bourne Betrayal. The last two are stories by Lustbader.

The Bourne movies tend to favor young to middle age men. However, they are loaded with action and good movie plots. They also give movie goers a chance to see other parts of the world, especially Europe. This movie is the third movie of trilogy by Ludlum. Running time on the film is 1 hour 51 minutes. It is directed by Paul Greengrass for Universal Pictures.

Many fans of both Damon and Jason Bourne have been waiting for a couple of years now for his return to the big screen. Who is hunting who? We’ll find out this coming weekend.
