Is Dakota Fanning Right for New Moon?

After reading New Moon, the second installment in the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, I immediately started to wonder about the cast for the New Moon movie. Due out in theatres November 20, 2009, New Moon is the most highly anticipated movie of the year. The Twilight phenomenon has swept the entire world, sparing almost no one!

I am pleased to say that all of our favorite stars from the original cast of Twilight are back for New Moon, set to begin filming in late March. New Moon continues to follow the love story of vampire Edward Cullen and human Bella Swan. A tourmented Edward leaves Bella for her own protection, which sends Bella spiraling into a deep depression. Jacob comes to Bella’s rescue after she is found in the forest, being there to see her through her troubles- but friendship isn’t enough for Jacob Black, who goes through his own transformation…becoming a wolf and embracing his heritage.

New Moon is packed with action, adventure and the romantic tensions we all crave to read about. Bella and Alice travel to Volterra to find Edward, and when they do, they must face the dreaded Volturi and their leader- Aro. Aro’s precious one’s are Alec and Jane, both packed with their own powers which Aro uses to his advantage. Jane’s power is fierce for her tiny stature. Depicted as a small, pale girl, Dakota Fanning popped into my mind as I read. She’s a good teen actress, now fourteen years old. She’s given incredible performances in other movies, her latest being PUSH, due out this winter. However, there’s just something about her that rubs me the wrong way…and that’s why she’d be perfect to play the part of Jane.

Summit Entertainment did not ask Fanning to read for Jane…they flat out offered her the part. Fanning told the press after shooting a junket for Push that she’d been offered the part, and negotiations are in place. She said she’d love to do it and thinks she’s really be perfect for it. She’s the right height, the right age and has skin so naturally pale, they’d barely have to put any make up on her. If she takes the role, you’ll be seeing her again in Breaking Dawn, the last movie to be filmed in the series. The Volturi return to deliver justice to the Cullens for something they’ve done, which the Volutri do not fully understand. Jane is the type of character you love to hate…she tries to ruin things, and thinks she can overcome anyone with her powers. Bella, however, is immune to the power, which infuriates Jane. Jane is petite, and little girl-like, but not to be underestimated, which is evident in what she is able to do to Edward. Will Fanning accept the role? And who will play her equally important quiet, but deadly twin brother Alec? Several names are being thrown around for the part, including Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies. To me, he’s a great choice, but maybe a little too old for the part by this point in time. We’ll have to wait and see.
