Ingenious GE Clock Night Light

Daycare Business

I needed to purchase a night light for our garage. I have a daycare business in our home, and the families enter through a darkened garage. With the windows in the garage and side door, this lends some light to the area, but it needs a night light. When I found this GE brand Electroluminescent Clock at my local Bed Bath & Beyond store, I paid the $14.99 without hesitation! It looked like the perfect solution for me.

Description

This GE night light is called an Electroluminescent Clock Night Light, and measures just under 3″ in diameter, while the face itself is 2 7/8″ in diameter. It looks exactly like a miniature clock, with large black numbers and a clicking second hand. The entire face of the clock is illuminated, and the hands also glow in the dark. The EL light is energy-efficient. This night light clock does run on one LR44 battery, which is included and installed in the clock at the time of purchase.

The outside frame of the clock is made of a bronze colored plastic that looks like wood or marble. There is an easy open lever on the back that you twist to install a new battery, and a dial to turn to set the time.

Thoughts

This is a great product to have in the home, and I am going to purchase a second one for my main bathroom. The clock is always on, and keeps time even when it’s unplugged from a power source. The design is well thought out as well. The prongs that plug into an outlet are on the very bottom of the clock, so that when it’s plugged into the top outlet and it won’t cover up any of the bottom portion of the outlet!

Since I often have daycare parents that are running late, they can easily see the time when they enter my garage! I don’t even have to say anything about their tardiness, they easily see it for themselves. This is also very helpful to have in the bathroom. When our daughter was a teenager, she was always getting primped and ready for school, and spent a good deal of time in the bathroom. I was always reminding her of the time, but with this clock night light in the room, one could easily keep track of the time.

Every morning I need to get eight daycare kids off to the bus, and inevitably one of them always waits until it’s time to get ready before they decide they have to use the bathroom! With the clock easily in sight, they are able to see the time for themselves and the one week that I had this in my bathroom (and put a different night light in my garage), we found it extremely helpful.

I suppose there are numerous rooms that a light like this would come in very handy. I’d love to have this in a hotel room with me during my vacation or travels! There are a few warnings on the package that you need to heed, such as not using an extension cord with this clock, and to plug it only into exposed wall outlets, and it shouldn’t come into contact with bedding or other materials that could present a fire hazard. With that warning you might think that this clock gets warm, but it actually remains cool to the touch, and there are never any bulbs to replace. This clock does make the ticking sound, so if that bothers you this might not be one you’d want to purchase. Also look around, this is online for a little bit cheaper price, but then you have to figure in the shipping costs.

There aren’t many night lights that I would pay almost $15 for, but this is definitely one! In fact, I can’t wait to buy my second one. It works great, is very attractive, and is a big help in my daycare home.
