The German Shepherd is respected and admire throughout the world for it’s versatility intelligence and loyalty.

They are well suited to active working environments.They often are deployed in various roles such as police work,guarding searching and rescue missions.
They have also been used by the military for bomb detection.Whence the name ,”Bomb sniffing dogs”.
A well trained Shepherd can lead a blind person threw a busy street with accuracy and alertness.
Despite their suitability for such tasks , the German Shepherd is also ideal as a family pet, because of it’s loving and loyal nature..They enjoy attention from their owners and other family members.
They posses wonderful temperaments ,and as such are admirable around children.They are elegant and graceful.Strong ,brave ,stern and imposing ..So it’s natural for them to be a perfect deterrent against home invader.
When well trained ,German Shepherds are versatile and can learn and do almost anything.

There are many different types of German Shepherds, but essentially three general
” types” that can be found in North America..
The American ,The German,And The European..Each types has it’s own unique look and personality

When searching for the ideal pet for your home it’s important to understand the differances in order to make the right choice.
The American line is called the AKC.style dog.These dogs are bred for show lines and evaluated for structure movement angulation color size and over all appearance.
There is also the subset of American German Shepherds” the back yard bred ” Shepherds.Some are descended from American show lines ,occasionally with some European and or German mix in them.But are a few generations removed from American Show line -like breeding..
People breed them in their homes for various reasons,such as money, would be fun, experiencing the miracle of life- etc.These people know nothing of blood lines and pedigree..Unfortunately a majority of these types of dog are without testing for health and temperament ,and the result of suck breeding practices often lead to Shepherds which are nervous -soft- skittish, and spooky.
Proned to separation anxiety ,and many other behavioral problems.
So much so that they are dangerous fear biters.
There is also the German show line ” Sieger” and within the European working lines ,there is the West German , Czech ,East German and Dutch, Belgian.
Each type brings it’s own slight variation in looks and temper..

Their life expectancy is between ten /fifteen years.
The most common health problems are joint and hip deterioration…
There is also concerns with over breeding..Puppies from pet stores often come from puppy mills,and more likely been over bred..Adding to exacerbate their predispositions.

Colors can be typical black and tan,all black ,or white.
The White German Shepherd is actually a different breed from the German Shepherd and is called “The American White Shepherd”.
The German Shepherd is a great companion when well trained and properly cared for..A hard working breed that lend it’s attributes for many different areas in law enforcement health care , and even the herding of sheep.A very useful breed indeed.

The German Shepherd was first registered as a popular family pet in ‘1899.
