Ideas for Making a Fairy Garden in a Container

Fairy Garden, Garden Accessories, Garden Decor, Organic Soil, Tiny Homes

A fairy garden is a magical place that is meant to attract little people that live in a secret world, just beyond our view. It does not have to take up a lot of square footage. Even those that do not believe in pixies can fill a planter with soil, small plants and decorative items that will beautify a porch, patio, balcony, flowerbed or a garden in a unique new way. A fairy garden in a container can look absolutely enchanting!

I am currently assembling items for a fairy garden in a large clay container. I plan on placing it on the north side of my house in a shady location next to the corner of the fireplace chimney. It will not be visible to neighbors or anyone else, but I will enjoy it immensely.

Begin with a Container of Rich Organic Soil

When assembling a fairy garden in a container that will hold live plants, begin with rich organic soil. It will provide the necessary medium for growing lush healthy flowers, moss and foliage. The soil will become the base for the display.

Select a Fairy House

Next, select a fairy house. Search online for miniature fairy houses and you will find tiny homes in all shapes and styles. I chose a cottage for my fairy garden. I plan on placing it in the center of the container, and it will become the focal point of the miniature garden. I will use polished gemstones to create a sparkling path.

Choose Fairy Furniture

Fairy furniture is a must when making a pixie garden in a container, search for a twig bench, a bistro set, a mushroom table and chairs or a tiny stump chair. It will add interest and appeal. Try making your own with woven grapevines and other natural items.

Add a Clover Plant, a Wild Violet, a Vinca Vine and a Carpet of Moss

When making a fairy garden in a container, do not overdo the plants. Select a single clover plant, a wild violet or two and a vinca vine. Plant a carpet of moss around the house or cottage, and keep it well watered. It can look like a lush lawn or a rolling meadow. Use your imagination!

Place Miniature Decor Including a Gazing Ball, a Birdbath and More

Some miniatures for a fairy garden are adorable. Others are absolutely beautiful. Add miniature decor when making an outdoor abode in a container for local pixies or those passing by. Add a mini gazing ball on a stand, a mini birdbath, a bird feeder and anything else that catches your eye. Search for fairy garden accessories, and enjoy selecting items for your special container. You will have even more fun assembling the container filled with mini decor, plants and more.
