Ideas for a Waterproof Outdoor Daybed

Comfy, Daybed, Valspar, Weatherproof

Imagine taking a nap in your backyard on a daybed that is just as comfy as your regular bed. You can enjoy napping and relaxing outdoors on a deck, patio or under the shade of a tree. A special mattress is not required. You can use an ordinary twin mattress and daybed frame with a few simple changes and additions. When paired with a canopy, it will look and feel phenomenal, especially on a cool breezy day when the sun is shining and the birds are singing. Imagine the luxury, and consider these ideas for a weatherproof outdoor daybed. You can create an exceptionally comfy outdoor place to sleep or relax.

Coat the Frame with Weatherproof Polyurethane or Clear Acrylic Spray

Before placing a daybed in a location that is not fully protected from the elements, coat the framework with a weatherproof sealant. If the frame is metal, give it a couple of coats of clear spray-on enamel sealer. Consider using Valspar brand Anti-Rust Armor. It will provide maximum protection for a metal outdoor daybed frame.

If the bed frame is wood, give it at least one coat of Valspar brand clear sealer for wood. It will protect the furnishing from extreme temperatures and all types of weather. However, it is best to place it in storage in the fall and winter in locations where torrential rains and snow can be expected. The furnishing will last much longer if it is properly stored during the coldest months of the year.

Protect the Mattress with a Heavy Vinyl Protector

Many people think that they cannot use an ordinary mattress outdoors, but with the right covering, it can be just as weatherproof as cushions that are designed for indoor/outdoor use. Cover the mattress with a heavy vinyl protector, and make it completely weatherproof by covering the zipper with waterproof duct tape. Gorilla Tape is an excellent choice. It has a durable all-weather shell, and it is twice as thick as average varieties.

After the mattress is fully protected, cover it with a fitted sheet of your choice. The fabric will not be weatherproof or waterproof, but it can be removed when not in use. Alternately, the fabric can be covered by a vinyl fitted sheet to protect it from birds, moisture and anything else that would soil the material.

Add Comfy Indoor/Outdoor Throw Pillows

To complete your weatherproof outdoor daybed, add comfy throw pillows that are designed for outside use. Line the back of the bed with an array of vibrant pillows to create a stylish and comfortable place for sitting and relaxing or napping. They are available in discount stores that sell exterior furnishings as well as online. Simple additions such as pillows can help to transform an ordinary daybed that was designed for indoor use into a comfortable outdoor refuge.
