Hunger Games Book Report

The main character in this book is Katniss, a 16 year old girl living in District 12 in North America. Some minor characters are Prim (her sister), Peeta (a neighbor boy), Rue (another tribute in the games), President Snow (the leader of Panem), and some other people from Capitol. The setting is in the future in North America. It was somehow destroyed, and now there is Panem there instead. Also the setting is also in District 12 and the arena for the Hunger Games.

You will also need to know some other information. There were 13 Districts and the Capitol. The districts tried to rebel, but were defeated by the Capitol. District 13 had been destroyed. Every year, the districts are forced to send 24 children from the ages of 12-18 to compete in the Hunger Games, where they kill each other until there is only 1 victor remaining. Also, the districts are mostly in poverty while the Capitol is extremely wealthy.

The problem is that Katniss ends up in the Hunger Games. The solution will spoil the book, so I won’t tell you if you don’t want to know (I will show it at the bottom of this article). I rated the book 5 stars, and I absolutely loved it. It is realistic fiction/ science fiction. It will take you from 4-8 hours to read and is around 300 pages long.

In the beginning of the plot it is Reaping Day, when the tributes for the games are selected. Prim is selected, and so Katniss volunteers to take her place. Then she leaves to go to the Capitol for training. Her assistant is an alchoholic, but seems to want to help her win the games. Then she trains for the games, and gets a very good score for sponsors (this allows them to send gifts to you in the arena). Then Peeta who was the other tribute from her District, asks for separate coaching. This means that he might not trust her. Then she is interviewed before the games. Peeta claims to like her.

Then the Hunger Games begin. She runs away from the supplies in the center of the arena, because everybody wanted them. Eleven people are killed on the first day. Then she finds out that Peeta has joined a group of Careers (people who trained all their life to compete in the games). Then she runs away from the gang.

She is caught in blasts of fire soon after running away. She is found again by the gang, but manages to escape in a tree. They still wait for her below. Then she cuts down a wasps nest in the tree, which hurts them badly. She also finds a bow and some arrows, and she is a very good shot with them. The gang finds her, but she runs away and Peeta saves her. Peeta is then forced to run away from the gang. Then she allies with Rue, another girl.

Then they destroy the Careers’ supplies to hurt them badly. Then another boy is killed. Katniss returns to find Rue killed by a boy. She kills the boy. Then she goes and finds Peeta because they announce that 2 tributes from the same district can win. She finds him in a bad condition. Then she goes to the center to get medicine to save Peeta. She is saved by a boy there. Then she returns and heals Peeta.

WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

There are only a few tributes left. A girl is killed from eating poisonous berries, and the boy that saved Katniss was killed in a battle with the remaining Career. They find him, but they are all chased into the center by wolves. There he tries to kill them both, but they are able to kill him and stay alive. Then they are told that only 1 tribute can live. They plan to both kill themselves with poisonous berries at the same time, but then they announce that they have both won. However, they are then told that the Capitol is mad at them because there were 2 victores when they asked for 1. They are both wanted dead by the Capitol.
