How to Wake Up on Time Every Morning

Alarm Clocks

Do you hit snooze when your alarm clock goes off and then roll over and go back to sleep? Hitting snooze on your alarm clock will give you an additional 6-9 minutes of sleep but if you are like me then you won’t even hear your alarm clock go off. I am a very heavy sleeper and if I’m tired enough I will oversleep. Whether you need to wake up for work every day or you are afraid you’re going to miss that important meeting or interview these three tips will guarantee you will wake up on time.

I had this problem when I was working full time and going to school in the evenings. I would get no more than a few hours of sleep a night and would wake up late for work almost every morning. I hated the feeling of running late or knowing that I was going to get into trouble for being late. Waking up late just threw off my day and I felt like I was playing catch-up for the next several hours.

Wake Up on Time Tip #1

Do not urinate before going to bed. This was the best way to get me out of bed in the morning. I refused to pee after eight o’clock. This made sure that my bladder was really full by 5:00am and I was forced to get up on time. A full bladder got me up better than all the alarm clocks in the world.

There is one drawback with not peeing before you go to bed. You may end up having to make a bathroom trip before you are supposed to wake up. This is still a good technique because even if it’s an hour before then you will still be slightly more awake and not in a deep sleep when your alarm clock does go off.

Wake Up on Time Tip #2

Move your alarm clock so that you have to get out of bed to turn it off. Put it on your dresser so that it’s out of reach even if you lean and stretch at the end of your bed. I had a friend who put his alarm clock on the floor in the hallway and then put a pan over it so that the sound was amplified. It may have agitated his neighbors but he got up on time every morning.

If you are just going to crawl back in bed and go back to sleep then hit snooze instead of turning off your alarm clock. You will have to get back out of bed in a few minutes to turn it off.

There is one problem with moving your alarm clock farther away. If you’re like me, you may not even hear it. That’s where tip #3 comes in.

Wake Up on Time Tip #3

Set more than one alarm clock or get an alarm clock with two separate alarms. Do not set the alarms for the same time, instead set them three minutes apart. This way you will either be hitting snooze every 3-5 minutes or you will just get out of bed and start your day.

I set three different alarm clocks to go off two minutes apart from each other. I set the one next to my bed to go off first so that I would hear the alarms that were across the room. There were times when I wouldn’t hear the first two until the third alarm clock went off. Then I was scrambling trying to figure out which one to turn off first.
