How to Speed Up Demodectic Mange Treatment

Holistic Treatments, Mites, Sulphur

Demodectic mange treatment ranges from the initial holistic response to a more complicated treatment, depending upon the severity of your dog’s situation.

Many dog owners seek a holistic method to ridding their dog of mites however if the mites are not thoroughly removed they cause a bacterial infection which only compounds the situation. You may think the dog is becoming better while the infection is growing worse and you’re really taking a step back while you believe your treatment is working.

The only way of knowing how severe your dog’s mites have become is to visit a vet and allow a scraping.

A holistic demodectic mange treatment should not replace having your dog thoroughly checked out by a vet; it should only compliment an RX prescribed treatment and here is why.

These mites burrow themselves underneath the skin and lay hundreds of eggs. Not just one or two mites; we’re talking about over 25 and more that are readily laying eggs every day. Your dog’s immune system becomes compromised and they are unable to fight off any infection and become sicker by the day.

Who’s to say you shouldn’t try a holistic demodectic mange treatment first? We all know that there are many alternative treatments that work for us and you can follow this list however, ask yourself, what if the first and second treatments do not work?

By the time you finish several holistic treatments you will see that the money you just spent could have went to a complete prescriptive treatment that would have worked faster.

To compliment your vet’s prescribed treatment you should also give your dog

• fresh garlic in the dog food

salmon fish oil tablets for a healthy coat

• antioxidant supplements to help boost the immune system

• probiotic pills to help cleanse their system

To try a Holistic Demodectic Mange Treatment

1. Wash your dog using a shampoo containing sulfur. This will start to kill off the topical mites. However, it will not kill off all the mites because they are burrowed underneath the skin.

2. After your dog is dry you can try and comfort him/her by rubbing some “Sulphur 8” hair cream into the coat (can be purchased in Walmart, Target, CVS type stores). This does nothing more than help comfort the itch and is only temporary.

3. Change your dog’s food that includes wholesome chicken, beef and liver without all the byproducts.

4. Thoroughly clean the dog’s bedding and all surrounding areas each time you bathe your dog.

This is only topical and will do nothing for the mites burrowed beneath the skin. You should know that while you are testing this treatment your dog is still suffering.

Affordable Prescriptive Demodectic Mange Treatment

1. Call your local animal shelter and ask them if their local vet tests for mites. The vet that visits the animals there will probably give you a discounted fee.

2. The dog will be dipped and given antibiotics to take for about 2 weeks. You will notice a difference that first day because half of the mites die upon being exposed to the lime-sulphur dip. The medicine keeps working for the next 7 days and continues to kill off the mites.

You will undoubtedly find many home remedies on the internet to help “cure” your dog but keep in mind, this is only topical and you really have no way of knowing just how successful your treatment was without a vet’s visit.
