How to Play the Newlywed Game at a Bridal Shower

Bridal Shower Games, Free Bridal Shower Games

If you are planning a bridal shower, one way to make your event a hit is to create some personalized games for guests to play. I’ve seen great success using a personalized version of the Newlywed Game. The bride will love that her groom has been incorporated into the bridal shower, while the guests will enjoy learning more about the soon-to-be-married couple’s relationship.

1. Create a list of Newlywed Game questions

To prepare to play the Newlywed Game at a bridal shower, you should create a list of 20-30 questions. The Newlywed Game questions ought to lend themselves to answers that won’t be too embarrassing or personal for the bride. Try to incorporate questions that you guess will be easy for the bride to answer and also some that will probably throw her for a loop. A little humor will go a long way in keeping the bridal shower guests entertained while playing the Newlywed Game.

2. Get the groom’s answers to your Newlywed Game questions

Once you’ve come up with a list, secretly contact the groom and ask him to answer the Newlywed Game questions. Be sure to give him plenty of lead time. The groom should answer the questions from his perspective rather than guessing what the bride would say. If he emails the answers to you, creating the answer sheet will be extra easy! For a special touch, consider video-recording the groom answering the questions and finding a way to play his answers at the bridal shower.

3. Create your Newlywed Game question and answer sheets

After you have received the groom’s answers, create a Newlywed Game sheet and make copies to hand out to the guests. List the questions down the front so that the guests can read them ahead of time. Then, insert an empty box at the bottom of the sheet in which the guests will be instructed to guess how many Newlywed Game questions the bride will answer correctly. Be sure you also create an answer sheet for your reference at the bridal shower.

4. Play the Newlywed Game at the bridal shower

At the shower, introduce the game by letting the bride and guests know that you’ve interviewed the groom and gotten his answers to some very important questions. Pass out the Newlywed Game questions and have the guests wager how many the bride will answer the same as the groom. Then, seat the bride in her “contestant chair.” Read her the Newlywed Game questions one by one and ask her to guess how her groom answered. Guests can follow along and mark which questions the bride answers correctly. Tally those up at the end of the game. The guest that came closest to guessing this number wins a prize!
