My most favorite and classic nail style is the French Tip. This style is gorgeous and clean looking. It can be a pain to achieve the perfect French Tip, but with a little practice, you can be doing this design by yourself perfectly in no time flat.
For the French Tip you will need:
A white pencil or white nail polish
Nail buffer
Nail filer
Quick dry
Nude colored nail polish
Before you start any of the steps below, you will need to have cleaned figure nails. If you have dirt under your nails, get it out of there. If you have nail polish on your nails, get it off there!
Step 1 – Once all your nails are clean and ready to start, take out the nail filer and let’s get to work. Choose whether you would enjoy the classic look or trendy look best. The classic look is a rounded tip on the nail and the trendy look is a squared off nail. Both will go well with the French Tip. Once you have chosen your look, file the tips of all your nails to match the look. Buff your nails really quick and move onto step 2.
Step 2 – If you have chosen the classic look, you will need to get a curved liner for the nail. You can find these at your local beauty store. Look in the nail section for French Tip items, and you will find a curved liner. If you are going with the squared off tip, you will need to get a straight liner.
The curved and straight liners will be placed on the nail in a later step to prevent you from making some odd shaped line for your nail tip. The curved liner will help you achieve a nice curved line, and the straight liner will ensure that you have a clean cut straight line.
Step 3 – Now you need to decide if you would like to have a more dominant color affect or more natural affect on the French Tip. If you would like more of a dominant color, use a clean white nail polish. If you would like more of a laid back natural look, use the white nail pencil. (NOTE: The white nail pencil will only work for the people with longer nails. And if you use this technique, you will not need to buy the nail liners.)
Step 4 – If you are using a nail pencil, run the nail pencil under your nail. Color all under your nail with the white pencil until everything is colored evenly. You do not want to leave anything bare. This will look very fake.
If you are using a white polish, apply the nail liner of your choice right where the white of your nail starts. Apply the polish above the nail liner. If you get some on the liner, it is okay. Just do not go below the liner!
Step 5 – If you used a nail liner, gently remove the liner after you have completed step 4. If you did not use a liner and went with the pencil, do not worry about this step or step 6.
Step 6 – Allow the polish to dry for a couple minutes and then apply the quick dry nail polish solution over the entire nail. Do this to all your nails and let them be for a couple minutes. Once you are sure all your nails are completely dry you may move on.
Step 7 – For the finishing touch: Apply the nude colored polish all over you nail. This will help lighten the bright white affect if you used a white polish for the tip. You can also do this with the nail pencil. It adds a more natural look. Let the polish dry for a couple minutes, and then apply quick dry nail polish over the entire nail once more.
