How to Make Crafts from Scraps of Fleece Fabric

Anyone who sews knows they are going to be left with scraps of fabric after they have completed any sewing project. Today’s trend in fabric is leaning towards projects made with fleece style fabrics.

Many times the scraps of fleece wind up in the scrap pile around your home waiting for them to be turned into a new project. While the fleece fabric scraps are in waiting, you are thinking of crafts to use the scraps of fleece in.

Tips for Fleece Fabric Crafts

Christmas Ornament Storage. You will want to cut the fleece fabric into a square smaller than the size of the ornament. You will then add a drop of clear craft glue onto the fabric, place the ornament on the drop of glue making sure the glue doesn’t go through the fabric. Let the glue dry before placing the wrapped ornament into the storage box.

Polishing Cloths. You can cut the scraps into the size needed to polish small appliances, silver or your car. The softness of the cloth will help prevent scratching during the polishing process.

Crazy Patchwork Mittens. You can sew the smaller scraps of fleece together in a manner that suits you. With a marker or quilting pencil, trace around your hand leaving at least a quarter inch seam allowance. Cut around the marked area and sew with right sides together. Turn the mittens out. This is a quick and easy craft project you can do in a couple of hours.

Crazy Patchwork Hats. You will sew the scraps together to form a larger piece. Take a stocking cap measure around two pieces of the crazy patchwork blocks you made. Make sure to leave at least a quart inch seam allowance when tracing. Cut out each side of the stocking cap. With right sides together sew the cap and turn right side out. These stocking style caps can be given to people at homeless shelters or cancer patients.

Pet Blankets. Sew the scraps together to create a blanket large enough for your pets. Turn the outer border under just enough to create a hem. You can also give extra blankets to your local animal shelters for their lovable cuddly friends for their pet areas. This will help any local animal shelter with their costs of running their shelters.

Shawl. Sew enough pieces of the scrap fleece pieces together to make a square approximately three feet by three feet. Fold the square into a triangle with right sides together leaving a hole large enough to turn right side out. Whip stitch the opening shut. You now have made a small shawl to wear on cool or cold evenings to keep your arms warm.

These are just a few ideas for creating craft projects from your fleece scrap fabrics. Just let your imagination take you away when creating crafts from scrap fabrics.
