Paper boats have been a popular paper craft for a long time. Making a paper boat only takes a few steps and can be done with ease. Now, there are different sets of directions for making a paper boat, depending on what you want it to look like. Some sets will take longer to make than others, but in the end, you will still be creating your own paper boat.
The way I learned to make a paper boat is a little bit different than the way others may have learned. In fact, you can use these steps to make both a paper boat and a paper hat. Two craft directions in one, right? But if you are interested, then here are the materials and steps on how to make a paper boat, the way I was taught growing up.
Materials:
A piece of construction or printing paper.
Steps:
1. Take the piece of paper and fold the top down to the bottom (you are basically folding it in half). If you would like, you can crease the fold to keep it folded it better.
2. Now fold the paper from left to right, so that is it folded in half from side to side. Once again, you can crease the fold.
3. Unfold the paper, but only once. Make sure you can see the crease in the middle. This will help you with the next folding step.
4. Take the top left corner of the paper and fold it down, making sure it is touching the middle crease. There should be a diagonal fold on the end, crease it so it will stay folded.
5. Repeat step 4 for the top right corner of the paper: Once again, fold it down to the middle crease and crease the diagonal fold on the right end.
6. Take the bottom of the paper (that is not folded) and fold it upward, so it looks like a flap. Crease the fold.
7. Flip the paper over and repeat step 6 for the bottom of the paper.
8. You can gently pull apart the bottom pieces, the way you would for a paper hat. This is so you can stand up the boat or have it float in water.
It may take a little practice for some, but almost anyone will be able to make a paper boat, as it just takes a little folding and creasing.
The steps are simple, so once you do finish your paper boat, you will be able to make another with ease. Or you can just use the one paper boat you have. You can have a boat race, float it for fun, or make it just to display. You can even used colored paper or decorate a plain white boat by drawing or writing on it.
