AARP is a non-profit group started in 1958 by Dr. Ethel Andrus. The AARP has over 40 million members in all 50 of the United States and its surrounding countries. AARP was formed from the National Retired Teachers Association in order to provide aging Americans with health insurance. Today, AARP provides discount benefits on many services and programs, to members over fifty years old. AARP members are well represented in Washington D.C. on matters like Social Security, Medicare, and issues pertaining to the elderly and retired population.
