How to Create Your Own Sudoku Puzzles

You can create your own Sudoku puzzles using your computer and spreadsheet software. Even those who hardly know how to use the spreadsheet on their computer can make the Sudoku puzzles with these how to tips.

Creating your Sudoku Puzzle Grid in Your Spreadsheet

You will want to find your spreadsheet under Start. Find Microsoft Word, Coral Wordperfect, OpenOffice Calc or whichever wordprocessor you have on your computer. The wordprocessor that is loaded on your computer should have the complete list of all of the tools such as wordprocessor and spreadsheet.

Once you have located the spreadsheet, you will want to open the spreadsheet.

You will see on the left-hand side of the spreadsheet a list of numbers. You will want to place the cursor on the line between one and two. You will drag the line down by using the left click button on your mouse to the number three on the list of numbers and release the left click button on your mouse. You will now have a 3/4 x 3/4 inch square all the way across the number one and letters of the row.

You will continue the dragging of the lines between the numbers two and nine. This will give you a nine square grid all the way down to the number nine. The 9×9 grid across the spreadsheet will start with A1 and go to I1. This will create a 9×9 grid for your Sudoku puzzle.

You will now count off a 3×3 square grid and highlight the grid. Locate the “Border” or “Line” tool along the top of your spreadsheet toolbar. It should be located near the end of the second line of the toolbar where your font is located. You will want to choose the darkest or thickest border shading to separate the 3×3 square grids for each of the three across and down grids. Click on the thickest border shading for the grid. Continue this step until you have completed the nine 3×3 grids.

Once you have the outside borders of the grids completed, select each of the 3×3 individually, and return to the “Border” or “Line” tool on the toolbar. You will want to choose the thinnest line separator for each of the grids. This will allow you to have a place for each of the numbers for the Sudoku Puzzles.

After you have the grid lines with their borders, you will now continue to the number placing on the grids for you Sudoku Puzzle.

Placing the Numbers in Your Sudoku Puzzle.

As you know there are numbers from 1-9 place in each of the 3×3 grids and none of the numbers can be repeated on any line across or down on the puzzle.

You will now choose a box and type in a number from 1-9. You will continue this for each of the 3×3 grids. You will want to double check to make sure you haven’t place two alike numbers in any of the rows in your Sudoku puzzle.

If the numbers are two small, select the box and change the font size in the number font box on the toolbar until your number is the right size. You will continue this process until you have all the numbers changed.

Printing Your Sudoku Puzzle

You can print your Sudoku puzzle right from the spreadsheet.

You will need to highlight the whole Sudoku puzzle grid. You will select the “File” button at the top of the spreadsheet and click. You will find the print button on the drop down menu and click. This will print your puzzle. Also, once you have highlighted your Sudoku puzzle the keyboard shortcut of CTRL + P will print your puzzle.

Creating the Answer Guide for Your Sudoku Puzzle

Once you have your Sudoku grid and starting numbers in the boxes, printed, you can now create an answer sheet for your Sudoku puzzle. You will work the puzzle in the same manner as you would from the printed book versions.

You will print the Sudoku answer sheet in the same manner as the “To Work” Sudoku puzzle.

When you create your own Sudoku puzzles, you can use them as a party game, to work for yourself or even as a school class game or assignment.
