How to Build a Baseball Bat Desk

Baseball Bat, Baseball Bats, Jig Saw

This simple baseball desk is perfect for a kid’s room, home office, or even a fun sports themed family room. Pre cut materials and wood baseball bats make this a simple desk that almost anyone can build.

To build a baseball bat desk you will need:

4 wood baseball bats
2 sheets of MDF or Birch Plywood 22 inched deep and 44 inches long
Jig Saw
Double sided screws
Power drill
½.

Now, you are going to have to cut your baseball bats that are why it is important to buy wooden baseball bats. Most desks rest comfortably at 31 inches. We are making a desk with storage, so cut you baseball bat have at 27 inches from the wide end with your jig saw. Save the handle, you’ll use it later. Do this to all four baseball bats.

Now, make a mark on each of the four corners of your desk top where you would like the baseball bats to stand as legs. Predrill a hole with your power drill and ½ inch drill bit. Now, predrill a hole in the middle of the cut off part of the baseball legs.

Now, the two strips of MDF or plywood will be the sides of your desk, so use your maker to mark a matching hole through the hole you drilled in the desk top. Repeat this on the other strip.

Now, use your double side screw to screw through the desk top and into the side pieces. Be sure to leave about 2 to 3 inches sticking out so you can later attach the baseball bat legs.

Now, to attach the top of the desk lay the second piece of sheet plywood or MDF on top of the three sided box you just built. Predrill a hole down through the sheet of plywood into those side pieces. Now, use regular screws to attach the top of the desk to the box.

Flip this desktop over to reveal the screws sticking out of the bottom. Now, twist on all four baseball bat legs.

Flip the desk over and stand it upon the legs.

Now, sand the plywood sheet of you used wood. If you used MDF you can ago ahead and just apply a coat of primer.

Once the primer dries you can paint on a coat of paint. Use a foam roller to get a smooth finish. If you used wood plywood you could also stain it instead of painting the desk.

Once the paint has dried you are finished.

For added detail you could insert double sided screws into two of the remaining baseball bat handles in screw them into the back two corners of the desk.

You made a desk with a storage area inside, so you could slide in some baskets into the opening or even some plastic office supply dividers. The opening should be about 4 inches tall since that is how tall you made your strip of plywood or MDF. If you have existing baskets or office dividers you want to use, then make the strip match the height of your baskets. Just remember to subtract or add any length off the baseball bat when you cut it so you end up with a desk that is a standard 31 inches tall.
