Honeysuckle Vs. Lansinoh Breast Milk Storage Bags

Breast Milk Storage, Honeysuckle, Storage Bags

Lansinoh is probably the most popular brand of breast milk storage bags around, but now there’s another competitor on the market by the name of Honeysuckle, which is quickly gaining momentum. I am an exclusive pumper with an outrageous oversupply. I freeze all my excess milk to donate, so I go through about 3 to 4 bags a day, stuffing each one full of 8 to 9 ounces of milk. Here is a look at the two brands of bags and how they compare:

Price
Lansinoh – The most economical way to buy them is with a 3-pack box of Lansinoh bags on Amazon.com for $17.64. Now, it says on the website that there are 25 bags in each box, but I’ve purchased them before and there are 25 bags plus 5 bonus bags per box, so essentially 30 bags. Divide $17.64 by 90 and that comes out to about $0.20 per bag.

Honeysuckle – Buying the bags in bulk will get you the best price. Honeysuckle sells a package of 300-count bags for $44.75, and the website often has promotional codes for free shipping. When you do the math, each bag costs about $0.15.

Quality
Lansinoh – Lansinoh went south when they brought out a new line of bags. I’m not sure when the change was made, but I can only buy the newer version of bags at the store and have occasionally been able to pick up a box or two of the older version from garage sales. The new bags are thin, flimsy, and often tear along the side seams with I pull the single ziplock seal open. The older version of bags are much thicker and the ziplock seals tighter.

Honeysuckle – Honeysuckle bags have the thickness of the old Lansinoh bags. Their bottoms are reinforced to prevent leaks and they have not only one, but two ziplock seals. Oh, and what’s even more great is they’re made from biodegradable plastic!

Leakage
Lansinoh – My main milk recipient told me that out of the hundreds and hundreds of bags she has thawed, only two Lansinoh bags have ever not leaked. That’s a track record I would not like to have for my breast milk storage bags! The recommended maximum capacity is 6 ounces and I know I fill them with 8 to 9, but my recipient says she has thawed bags from more than 10 different donors, and it’s the same case with every one, no matter if they have 2 ounces or 9!

Honeysuckle
– My recipient has given me the official report that approximately 1 out of ever 12 Honeysuckle bags leak. You can’t beat that. They also have a recommended maximum storage capacity of 6 ounces, yet I still fill them up beyond that.

In summation, Honeysuckle bags are the way to go. Unless I can find an older version of Lansinoh bags at the thrift store or garage sale, they’re never making it into my shopping cart ever again.
