Introduction
My name is Profilio Thomas and I am 39 years old. I am a college graduate and have worked as a high school teacher and the last six years, I worked as an insurance salesperson.
Three Years ago, I lost my job due to severe headache, which left me deaf and caused me to lose nostril sensory receptors, thus I can’t hear or smell anything.
How It All Started
It all started about four years ago, when I was suffering from a severe headache and was treated by private doctors for two weeks, blood tests taken but no solution was found. It later increased to a level that you felt the head was bursting. Further blood tests produced no results.
I was admitted in the hospital in the third week and a doctor who experimented it first drew water from my backbone and diagnosed the disease as Cryptococcus Meningitis and he then started with the treatment.
Neck pains also started during this period and always tried to cause polarization to my arms and the neck to which I resisted by stretching arms and shaking my head, until a pain killer as the only help was given.
The headache was so severe that if it lasted for few hours, a pain killer injection even the strongest would not work against it. Doctors had to reduce the pain by drawing four bottles of water from my backbone in order to help medicine to work. This was done once a week until it was brought under control.
The neck did not get treatment as it was only given pain killer injection until I left the hospital, but two weeks from my admission to the private hospital, I also lost my hearing and smelling ability and I believe that, that caused by the neck. Thus, I lost my hearing and smell. I cannot smell anything.
I manage to get tablets that work against neck pain and headache at the pharmacy after I had left the hospital, which I buy weekly. Headache occurs occasionally and more needs to be done about the neck pain.
Further tests revealed that a bacterium has clung for a long time on my brain and left tiny spots damaged. I am taking some pills for the repair of the brain. This bacterium fell into the mainstream of backbone water and caused a steam.
The steam tried to escape through the head, pushing upwards and this caused the severe headache felt like burning and my head and face skin seems to be dead.
There are many scratchy sounds that occur sometimes in the head. There are different birds’ sounds, insects’ sounds and many more in the ears. Treatment in two different hospitals lasted more two months.
Mayo Clinic Medical Appointment
I am scheduled for complete medical treatment at Mayo Clinic, Rochester in Minnesota on January 17, 2008.
My initial appointment at Mayo Clinic is to have a “system work up”, a complete medical checkup and analysis, first in the Department of General Internal Medicine with a consultation in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology.
At Mayo Clinic, I will be evaluated by a team of physicians from the Mayo Clinic International Section of General Internal Medicine. One member of that team will be assigned as my primary physician. This is often the first step in investigating my medical concerns.
Depending upon the results of my initial exam, additional tests or consultations with other specialists may be necessary. After my tests are complete, I will meet again with the primary physician to review all the test results. My primary physician will make any final recommendations at that time.
My goal of getting this treatment is hopefully to restore my hearing and smell, so that I can go back to my normal life, return to work to help support my family and help my community.
Medical Treatment Fees
My treatment fees at Mayo Clinic will cost over $13,000. I don’t have insurance coverage and I personally have no money to cover these fees for my treatment.

Activities
I used to love playing soccer and all kinds of sports. I was an after school soccer coach for my local school community, but ever since I started getting sick four years ago, I have stopped doing anything. My head hurts so bad, that it feels like bursting, so I am left lying aound most of the time, unemployed and penniless.
