If you’re looking for haunted spots in Ohio, look no further than Cincinnati. Cincinnati has arguable more haunted places than any other city in the state and many of them are open to the general public.
Anderson High School is just one of the many haunted schools in Cincinnati. Here people see things moving and hear voices after the school has closed for the day. There’s also Oak Hills High School where a female ghost haunts the auditorium. Sometimes she is seen in the audience or walking around the catwalk. This ghost also likes to play with the lights and doors. Or you can visit Rapid Run Middle School where a man died during the building of the auditorium. He now hides chairs and plays with the lighting system.
There’s also the Mother of Mercy High School, haunted by Sister Mary Carlos the namesake of the school auditorium. The Sister is known to make the lights flicker and move things. Students at the school make sure to invite her to every show, afraid of what might happen if they don’t. mount Notre Dame High School is haunted by a student who committed suicide during the 1940’s. Rumor has it that she did it on the third floor and students have experienced lockers opening and lights coming on suddenly.
Buffalo Ridge is where you can see the spectral vision of a car driving at top speed down the road. You may also hear the sounds of the car crashing and the men screaming inside. In this same area people report seeing the ghost of a headless woman in a white dress. Supposedly the woman was killed, either on her wedding days or just days before, and was buried without her head because it was never found. Now she walks the area looking for it.
The Cincinnati Job Corps Center is haunted by the ghosts of its former residents. At one point in its history it served as a convent, and even an armory. The main ghost is believed to be a former nun who killed herself in the building. Some students have seen the nun, while others have heard soft footsteps in the hallway. There are also reports of water faucets that turn on or off.
Cincinnati also has its fair share of haunted museums and attractions. The Cincinnati Museum of Art is reportedly haunted by an extremely tall figure that resembles a dark shadow. Some believe the ghost is associated with a donation the museum received because it is usually seen around the mummy exhibit. Then theres the ghost of a lion who haunts the Cincinnati Zoo. Many people have heard something following them and turned around to see bright green eyes that quickly disappear.
St. Xavier High School is haunted by a former janitor. The man seemed happy, but one day killed himself in one of the bathrooms. People often hear the man in the same bathroom and walking through the halls. A former janitor also haunts Taylor High School. The man opens doors and the ghost of a boy who died in the school pool likes to play in the pool and flush the toilets.
Western Hills High School is haunted by the ghost of a foreign exchange student who drowned in the school pool. Supposedly he died under mysterious circumstances and now haunts the swimming pool. Some people claim to hear him screaming and the water splashing at the exact time when he died.
Believe it or not, Cincinnati even has a haunted apartment building and a few haunted hotels. The Cornell Place Apartments are where many people have heard people talking and walking down the hallway, only to open their door and see no one there. If you need a place to stay, try Room 331 at the Country Hearth Hotel. Guests have reported cold spots, things moving, and even things disappearing from their room. Some guests have also heard pounding on the ceiling or walls when the hotel is otherwise empty.
Once upon a time Cincinnati even planned on having its own subway. Plans were scrapped due to money problems, but several people reportedly died during the construction phase. The tunnels that remain under the city are supposedly haunted by the ghosts of those men. Over in Eden Park you’ll find a ghostly woman in black who reportedly haunts the gazebo.
Speaking of museums, also make sure to visit the Cincinnati Museum Center. A security guard by the name of Shirley was shot there during the 1990’s when attempting to stop a burglary. She is now believed to haunt the building, locking doors and still making her rounds. Some also claim to hear people crying or cheering, residual haunts left over from its time as a railroad station.
The Taft Museum is also haunted. This ghosts moves furniture to block off a room in the museum. Even the Westwood Town Hall is haunted by a former security guard named Willy. Willy killed himself there after losing his job, and how messes with the things in the building.
Cincinnati also has the haunted Lick Road where a girl named Amy was killed. People now claim to hear the sounds of the girl screaming.
Cincinnati’s Music Hall is also haunted. This building was built on top of the poor cemetery in town, and some believe the ghosts come from there. People in old-fashioned clothing have been spotting, as well as the sounds of people whispering and singing.
Cincinnati even has a haunted shopping mall! The Old Western Wood Mall is haunted by a ghost named Charlie. Charlie often makes the temperature drop.
Satan’s Hollow is located near Cincinnati and rumors say that a Satanic cult once practiced there. People now claim to see weird things there, and hear a woman screaming. Then grab a bite to eat at the haunted Texas Roadhouse. Here you might find the ghost of a cowboy walking around inside, but only after closing of course.
No tour of haunted places in Cincinnati would be complete without mentioning Spring Grove Cemetery. There is a statue with glowing eyes that moves, and the ghosts of two white dogs who watch over their masters graves.
If you have time, you can even stop at the nearby King’s Island amusement park where several ghosts are spotted. One is the ghost of a little girl buried in the nearby cemetery, while another is a man who supposedly died on their Eiffel Tower. Or ride the infamous Beast roller coaster, and keep your eyes peeled for the real beast in the forest.
Seeing all the haunted spots in Cincinnati could take you a couple of weeks, but it would be worth the trip!
