Halestorm’s ‘The Strange Case Of…’ Pulls a Jekyll and Hyde Act

Halestorm’s new album, “The Strange Case of…,” drops April 10, 2012. This time around, Lzzy Hale and company bring a “strange case” of Jekyll and Hyde with a heavy and soft themed full-length album featuring 12 tracks.

The first four tracks, “Love Bites (So Do I),” “Mz. Hyde,” “I Miss the Misery,” and “Freak Like Me,” bring a sense of heaviness with power riffs and high tempo. Hale belts her way through these tracks and listeners develop a notion that this effort will be a little heavier than the band’s self-titled 2009 debut, which consisted of radio catchy rock tracks and power ballads.

However, like the Jekyll and Hyde personality difference Halestorm pulls their own “strange case” by pirouetting and delivering a stretch of songs that fans grew accustomed to from the band’s first album. “Beautiful With You,” “In Your Room,” and “Break In” show the range that Halestorm is capable of.

The final songs on “The Strange Case of…” consist of rock songs that follow the same formula that made Halestorm successful in the industry. Tracks like “You Call Me a Bitch Like It’s a Bad Thing” and “American Boys” showcase guitar riffs and Hale’s powerful vocal range.

“The Strange Case of…” ends with yet another ballad that has a hint of country flavor attached to it. The song is called “Here’s To Us” and, if anything, it sums up the fun that Halestorm appears to be having. Overall, this is another solid effort by an up and coming band. “The Strange Case of…” drops April 10, 2012 everywhere.
