Hairstyles for Women

Popular Hairstyles

There are many types of hairstyles for women. What hairstyle is right for you? Well this can be a challenging question for many women because there are different factors to look at such as the time we live in and life style. To help give you tips on hairstyles for women I have interviewed Billy Lowe who is a Hollywood hairstylist and beauty education Director from Los Angeles, California.

Tell me a little bit about yourself.
“I’ve always had a passion for hair & beauty. As a kid I never felt I was the most popular kid in school, and always idolized those who were. They seemed to have something that I wanted. It was a sense of confidence, looking great, feeling great, and a positive outlook that they seem to have. I always remember thinking everyone should feel that way and not just some. In my day-to-day work, I take pride in helping my clients find that certain something that gives them that sense of feeling great about themselves when I show them their finished look.”

What are some popular hairstyles for women today?
“The look today isn’t as defined as what it may have been in the 50’s or 60’s when the order of the day was a 1, 2, or 3. Back in the day there seem to be 1 or 2 styles to choose from whether it was a classic shampoo & set or a simple blowout. Today there’s a lot more diversity in hairstyles ranging from sexy Pamela Anderson locks to shorter styles that we’ve seen on Natalie Portman (a modern day Twiggy). The versatility of styles, thanks to a variety of styling tools to choose from, makes it easier for clients to transition from one hairstyle to the next almost seamlessly.”

How do you create a hairstyle for women who have lost their hair to cancer?
Creating a look for clients who experience hair loss largely depends on how much hair is lost. Many times there’s enough to work with and other times we recommend looking at hairpieces or wigs to cover fine or thinning hair. The biggest opportunity here is to help them look and feel like themselves. Give them something they can identify with in their hairstyle, rather than creating a look that’s completely out of touch.”

What are some fabulous hairstyles for women who are going out on a date?
“Think simple, elegant, “come touch me” hair. Don’t over-do it or you may have a set of paws in your gorgeous mane that you don’t want. Hair can be flattering or it can be distracting. Be sure it’s flattering for your facial features, and your personality. Soft tresses that frame the neck and shoulder area speak style and sophistication. It just depends on what look you’re going for.”

What are simple hairstyles for women who are out and about running errands?
“A simple ponytail will get you from a day at the park to an evening on Park Avenue. A low tie-back at the nape area creates a more classy looking ponytail, and a side swept bang will keep hair out of eyes and away from the face for a more sophisticated look and feel.”

What advice would you like to give to women who want to get a new hairstyle?
“RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH.”
” Don’t “walk in”.”
“Take pictures, express your thoughts, and be sure your stylist can repeat your ideas back to you.”
” Ask for referrals. If you see someone’s hair you like – ask for the name or number of his or her stylist.”
