Great Things to Do in Casper, Wyoming

Casper

Casper, Wyoming is a great little city in an extremely scenic state. Whether you are in town on a vacation or a resident of Casper these are some great things to do in this great city.

One of the best activities to eat up a day in Casper is to hit up the museum circuit. If you’re a history buff then you can’t go wrong with a few stops to the best museums in town.

Fort Casper Museum is a great first stop, located on Fort Casper Road this is a great place to get into some of the local history. With admission hours of 8AM-5PM and ticket prices running a mere $3 for an adult and $1.50 for a child (half of this in the off season) you can’t beat the price. The Fort Casper Museum’s area and compound was first established all the way back in 1847 so not only will you be learning about some local history you will also be walking through it.

Another great museum in Casper is the Werner Wildlife Museum. If you are the outdoors type or are going with a group of children then this museum is always a hit. Featuring nearly all the critters Wyoming is known for, both real stuffed animals and many photos and artist renderings, this is a great way to take in the state’s wildlife and is always popular with younger kids. This museum was actually established and is affiliated with the Casper College so you are sure to come away with some great factual information.

To round out our Casper museum adventure day I highly recommend a visit to Crimson Dawn Park & Museum. This one has less to do with mainstream history and more with a good time. Again, hugely popular for kids of all ages, myself included, this stop focuses on more of the spooky history of Wyoming touching on such topics as mythical creatures and witches. Running from 10AM-6PM in the summer and running on donations this is truly the best bang for the buck.

On Casper Mountain you’ll find another great American pastime, skiing and snowboarding. The Hogadon Ski Area Resort is one of the best little slopes in the region boasting over 60 different groomed runs. This is also one of the most affordable ski areas you will find anywhere in the US with a full day coming in at $35 for an adult and between $20-$30 for children depending on the age, those under 5 get in for free! If you came unprepared don’t worry, in addition to food you can find equipment rentals and both ski and snowboard instructions.

Another great stop in Casper, especially for those interested in Science is the Casper Planetarium. With a low $2.50 admission price you’re sure to get your money’s worth. Offering not only the traditional space viewing and lectures you can also engage in hands on workshops and a great exhibition featuring tektite and meteorite displays. The final frontier never felt so close as it does at the Casper Planetarium.

These ideas should provide you with a couple days of some of the best things do to while in Casper, Wyoming.
