Great Summer Jobs in Vermont for Teens

Vermont

The weather is beautiful again in Vermont, and with summer quickly approaching it’s time for many Vermont teens to start thinking about getting a job. The job market for Vermont teens is limited, but there are lots of fun places to work where you’ll be able able to earn a little cash. Some of this money will go towards movies and concerts, and some to gas, but it’s certain that any remainder will have to be used to deal with the looming expenses of college. I know that paying for college is a horrifying thought, so you might as well try to get a job where you’ll have some fun earning your money.

The first and most obvious option for teens on the job hunt is working at a restaurant. I know hearing this will be accompanied by sighs, but there are actually some places out there that are alright to work at. If you’re going to be washing dishes or busing tables, you better find a place with good company, and most importantly good food. Laid back co-workers are always a plus, and I personally always appreciate working in kitchens where the co-workers appreciate listening to music while they work. Vermont’s largest city, Burlington, is full of some very cool restaurants. You could try working at American Flatbread, a great local business run by some very cool people. They have a location in downtown Burlington in addition to their home base in Waitsfield, Vermont. The Waitsfield location has some beautiful scenery and the restaurant itself has an exquisite earthy setup, featuring a large wood fired oven. It wouldn’t be a bad place to spend a few hours of your summer to earn a few extra bucks. For more info on Flatbread, please visit their website at: www.americanflatbread.com/

Another really great restaurant is the Cider House Barbeque and Pub located in Waterbury, Vermont and serving up some of Vermont’s finest barbeque. Speaking from experience, the staff here is very friendly and easy to work with and on top of a solid wage with tips you also get a free meal each shift you work. It’s also a really nice place to work at because, unlike many restaurants, it closes relatively early so you can get home and get to sleep at a reasonable time (or do other stuff if you prefer). Another good place to work over the summer is a golf course. Golf courses in vermont are prevalent, and the work involved is relatively easy. Also as a perk, you usually get to play golf for free! A nice small, nine hole golf course is the Catamount Country Club located in Williston, Vermont. This way you’ll at least get some sunshine while your work! Lastly, but probably best, is working at a summer camp. Being a camp counselor has the perks of getting to play lots of games, if that’s your thing. For some, working at a summer camp is a great way to teach things like art or music, and the variety of positions avaiable at a summer camp mean just about anyone can find a job doing something that relates to something they like to do anyways. One downside of summercamp work is that the hours can be long with relatively little pay. On the other hand, the work is generally not hard and very fun. A great way to find out more about summer camps to work in Vermont is by visiting: www.vermontcamps.org/ and looking for something in your area.
