Goex Black Powder Review

Black Powder, DuPont, Reenactor, Reenactors, United States Military

When it comes to black powder, Goex is the name that is synonymous across the United States for quality. Goex has been producing black powder for the United States military since 1802. Goex was first produced as DuPont brand black power. DuPont produced black powder for the United States military from the earliest days of the country. Were it not for DuPont the United States military what have had to import most of its black powder for much of the nation’s history.

From 1802 to 1921, DuPont was the main producer of black powder in the United States. Its plants were located in New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. DuPont produced excellent quality black powder for both the civilian and military markets. In 1921, DuPont sold its black powder business to Goex Powder Inc.

Goex Powder Inc. moved the operations that they bought from DuPont to Louisiana. Since 1921, Goex has been producing high quality black powder, following the DuPont formula, for both the civilian and military markets. Today some of the highest quality black powder in the world is made by Goex.

Goex today produces both traditional black powder and high quality black powder substitutes. Goex produces traditional black powder in all grades from 1 F to 4 F. Goex also produces superb quality black powder substitutes under the Pinnacle brand in the same grades as their traditional black powder. Goex has even begun producing a black powder that matches the characteristics and qualities of black powder from the Civil War and the American Revolution. This new brand of black powder is being produced under the name Reenactor. It promises to be a powder that will be as authentic as possible to the powder that was available prior to World War One.

As an avid black powder enthusiast, I can attest to the high quality of Goex black powder. I have been using Goex brand black powder for over 20 years as a historical reenactor and as a hunter. I have found no better powder than Goex, in spite of trying many others. What it comes time to count on the powder to work, Goex seems to never fail. Many other powders however have failed me miserably. They seem to fail especially when I needed them to fire in order to make a shot when hunting. Goex on the other hand has proven time and again to work very well when I’m hunting. Also on the battlefield as a reenactor, Goex has proven itself to be the best powder for recreating the effects that would have been seen by traditional black powder in both the Revolutionary War and Civil War eras.

After having tried several brands of black powder, I can recommend none other than Goex. It has provided me with exactly what I needed each and every time I have used it. If the new Reenactor powder proves to be as good as Goex’s previous products, it will be welcomed not only by myself but also by historical reenactors across the United States. The powder produced by Goex, according to DuPont’s original formula, is the best made American black powder on the market today. When it comes to selecting a black powder, a hunter or reenactor certainly cannot go wrong by selecting Goex.
